The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an intergovernmental organisation committed to advancing security of energy supply, economic growth and environmental sustainability through energy policy co-operation. The IEA operates as an autonomous body within the framework of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Both the OECD and the IEA seek opportunities to work with an increasing number of non-members of growing importance to the world economy (countries beyond IEA). The Agency aims to foster the contribution of the energy sector to economic development and environmental sustainability across the globe.
As a core component of its mandate, the IEA Energy Data Centre (EDC) is responsible for collecting and disseminating a broad portfolio of energy statistics to monitor developments in the energy sector and to provide to its Members and beyond a sound basis for policy decisions. The Agency has undertaken a significant modernisation of its data infrastructure and processes, including the creation of a Data Warehouse which is the central repository for data products within the Agency. The IEA seeks a Statistical Database Content Manager Manager to help ensure coherence across the Agency for the life cycle of different data products, from data ingestion to dissemination.
The selected candidate will report to the Head of the Data Development and Support Unit (DDS) of the Energy Data Centre (EDC), and work with a team of enthusiastic professionals in a multicultural, dynamic and busy environment.
Job Description
Main Responsibilities
- Support the Head of the Data Development and Support Unit in EDC in the management of the Data Statistical Database Content Manager Group, which is responsible for managing, organizing, and enhancing the organisation's statistical content and metadata harmonization.
- Work with colleagues to ensure that all datasets are accurately harmonized with respect to structural characteristics (e.g. codelists) integrated in the DW and that those available for public dissemination are accessible on the relevant dissemination platform (.stat), with an appropriate metadata structure (SDMX).
- Close collaboration with the Information Systems Unit (ISU) to enhance robust data infrastructure, as well as to co-develop data products that accelerate data quality assurance and the transformation of raw data into actionable insights.
- Ensure data consistency, quality, and ease of access across various teams within the IEA and external stakeholders.
- Serve as the primary contact point for interactions between the IEA and the SIS_CC community (responsible for management of the .STAT platform in order to ensure that the IEA is able to exploit and potentially contribute to developments in the platform.
- Responsible for the maintenance and updating of a calendar that tracks data publication schedules. This calendar will help keep stakeholders informed about upcoming data releases, ensuring that they are aware of any new datasets ingested into the Data Warehouse and any related updates.
- Report to the Committee on Energy Statistics for any significant developments in the IEA’s data products and governance, corresponding metadata structure, methodologies, processes and dissemination tools
- Develop and maintain the enterprise catalog of statistical and analytical datasets.
- Document data structures, transformations, lineage, and assumptions.
- Collaborate with data science and analytics teams to ensure data content supports reproducible and explainable analysis.
- Define and enforce metadata standards, naming conventions, and usage guidelines.
- Support data governance processes, including data quality assessments and access controls.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on the content and context of key datasets used for modelling, forecasting, and policy analysis.
- Assist with onboarding and training analysts and data scientists on data assets and best practices
Qualifications
Ideal Candidate Profile
Academic Background
- A university degree in a relevant area such as information management, (energy) statistics or in other relevant areas.
Professional Background
- At least 5 years professional experience in data processing and management.
- Experience with project management involving colleagues with disparate professional roles and responsibilities.
- Proven ability to multi-task, work autonomously and manage multiple complex projects successfully.
- Strong background in statistics, data science, or a related analytical discipline.
- Proficiency and experience working with structured data, databases and SQL.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to write clear, concise technical documentation.
- Understanding of data governance principles
Tools
- Experience working with a coding language (e.g Python)
- Familiarity with statistical and metadata standards such as SDMX
Core Competencies

Languages
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English; working knowledge of other languages would be an advantage.

Contract Duration
This vacancy will be used to fill multiple positions. The appointment type will be determined based on the needs of the Directorate and will be confirmed when an offer of employment is made to the selected candidate.

- Depending on level of experience, monthly salary starts at 5902 EUR, plus allowances based on eligibility, exempt of French income tax.
