Senior AI Engineer

Keystone Education Group is seeking an experienced and innovative Senior AI Engineer to join our growing team. Based primarily in Sheffield, UK, but offering hybrid working from Sheffield or Stockholm, this is a fantastic opportunity to spearhead our initiatives in Generative AI and make a significant impact within a global EdTech leader.

As our Senior AI Engineer, you will be the technical lead for AI application development, focusing heavily on Generative AI. You'll own the end-to-end lifecycle – from ideation and architectural design through to deployment and iteration – of sophisticated AI solutions. This full-stack role requires not just deep AI expertise but also strong software engineering skills to build robust, scalable systems. You will collaborate closely with product managers, front-end developers, and DevOps engineers, guide technical direction, champion best practices, and stay at the forefront of the rapidly evolving AI landscape, particularly within the GenAI space.

We are looking for a seasoned AI/ML professional with a proven track record of building and deploying impactful AI solutions. You should possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with excellent communication and leadership potential. 

Essential foundational skills include:

• Deep proficiency in Python or JavaScript/TypeScript and associated AI/ML SDKs.
• Solid experience with cloud platforms, specifically AWS (including services like SageMaker, Lambda, S3, EC2, Bedrock).
• Strong software engineering fundamentals (API design, data structures, algorithms, version control with Git, testing methodologies).
• Understanding of full-stack application architecture and integration points.
• Experience working in agile development environments and familiarity with CI/CD practices.

Our Technology Environment

You'll be working within a modern tech stack primarily centred around AWS. Our data strategy incorporates Knowledge Graphs, specifically using Neo4j. For large language models, we leverage APIs from providers like OpenAI and Google Gemini, while also valuing experience with deploying and managing open-source models. Our front-end stack includes React/Next.js, so familiarity here is beneficial.

Skills

Beyond the core competencies, success in this role hinges on specific, hands-on experience in the following areas:

• Generative AI Applications: Demonstrable experience designing, building, and deploying applications leveraging Generative AI techniques.
• RAG Pipelines: Deep understanding and practical experience in developing and optimising Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines.
• GenAI Frameworks: Hands-on experience with key frameworks such as LangChain/LangGraph and/or LlamaIndex.
• LLM Integration: Proven ability to integrate effectively with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Gemini) and ideally experience handling open-source models.
• Knowledge Graphs for AI: Experience utilising Knowledge Graphs (Neo4j preferred) as part of AI architectures, as part of modern RAG systems.
• Highly Desirable: Experience building B2C applications (e.g., chatbots), exploring Agentic AI patterns.

The tech team works as an in-house tech department, based out in Stockholm, with the GenAI and Data team based in the UK. The responsibilities of the team encompass developing technical platforms and solutions to lay the ground for the rest of the business at Keystone Education Group.
