Principal Data Scientist

Aviva is looking for a dynamic Principal Data Scientist to help drive innovation and impact within our Retail team.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-profile data science team that’s shaping the future of insurance through advanced analytics. As the industry evolves in an era of rapid technological change, Aviva is investing in machine learning and analytics as a core capability.

Our team is recognised as a centre of excellence within the Global Data Science Department – delivering data-driven insights that enhance decision-making across the Aviva Group.

A bit about the job:

As a data science leader within the Personal Lines business, you’ll work closely with a diverse range of stakeholders to understand key challenges and lead the development of innovative data science solutions that drive better outcomes for both the business and our customers. You’ll develop a deep understanding of the business strategy and objectives, and lead a team focused on delivering impactful solutions. You’ll also have the freedom to explore creative and forward-thinking approaches to unlocking value from data.

We’re particularly interested in candidates with experience in Pricing & Underwriting Analytics within personal lines insurance.

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • Proven ability to solve complex, non-routine problems using expertise in areas such as Statistics, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or AI.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills – able to explain complex concepts clearly to a variety of audiences.

  • Strategic thinker with strong commercial awareness.

  • Experience delivering projects in collaboration with cross-functional teams or external partners.

  • Highly numerate, with a degree or postgraduate qualification (e.g., MSc) in a relevant field such as Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Science (preferred but not essential).
