Main Purpose:

We are looking for an experienced Energy Data Analyst to work closely with the Lead Data Scientist and serve our Crude and Products Trading and operating teams. This is a great opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, playing a vital role in crafting analytics and models (both with external and internal data) and contribute to the feasibility evaluation and implementation of ground breaking machine learning techniques.

Whilst working directly with the Lead Data Scientist, the Energy Data Analyst will be part of the global data science and engineering team who are responsible for the ingestion and management of market and fundamental data, sophisticated modelling techniques and solutions.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Development and maintenance of advanced analytics methods and applications for Crude and Products teams.

  • Contribute to the automation of trading desk processes.

  • Acquire a deep understanding of technical projects on the trading desk to better serve commercial needs.

  • Collaborate and communicate optimally with team members across different business lines and technology.

  • Write clean and efficient code in Python

  • Participate in crafting data pipelines with an understanding of statistics or ML concepts

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in engineering, computer science or related field.

  • 3+ years of professional experience in data science and software development (or demonstrably strong GitHub portfolio)

  • Proficiency in Python and strong coding fundamentals

  • Understanding of data warehousing or ETL processes

  • Proven hands-on experience with AWS cloud infrastructure

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices (CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, Docker, etc.)

  • Comfortable working with Git and SQL in production environments

  • Statistical thinking and exposure to ML libraries (like scikit-learn, pandas, or TensorFlow)

  • Contributions to open-source or personal projects involving ML/stats is a bonus

  • Experience in a trading environment is highly desirable.

Key Relationships and Department Overview:

Department Overview

The Data Science and Engineering team at Trafigura conducts research, develops sophisticated analytics solutions, and delivers data services to support the trading business and various commercial operations.

Trafigura's teams handle both physical and derivative portfolios, relying heavily on data, analysis, and process automation.

Day-to-day management will be provided by Traders and Analysts, while the Data Science and Engineering team offers technical mentorship and supplementary engineering and analytics support as needed.
