The Position

Are you passionate about harnessing the power of computational biology to transform patient care? 

We are looking for an experienced Senior Scientist in Computational Biology to join Boehringer Ingelheim’s global Computational Innovation (CI) department. In this role, you will leverage state-of-the-art computational methods in multiomics data analysis to boost insights into disease biology and drive innovative target identification. As part of a dynamic team dedicated to eye diseases and neurodegeneration, you will work with custom multiomics datasets, including matched proteomics and transcriptomics data from patients, sourced through our external collaborations. You will also support pre-clinical data generation and analysis for our pipeline projects, working with project teams in the therapeutic area and with our inhouse facilities. This position has a hybrid setup with approximately 2 days per week on site.

This position is part time eligible with 80 %.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role you will apply state-of-the-art methods to analyse and integrate multiomics data with the aim to understand relevant disease processes and identify novel drug targets.
  • In addition, you will computationally support pipeline projects by generating and analyzing experimental pre-clinical data, with a focus on creating standardisable workflows to identify translational markers or readouts.
  • Furthermore, you will present and discuss analysis results to your project team members and to a variety of stakeholders including laboratory leads and scientists from our partnering functions.
  • As a strong team player, you will work independently in your project settings while keeping close interaction with the team, and you will share our drive to innovate with data. 

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in computational biology or a related field (bioinformatics, data science, computer science, mathematics/physics, molecular biology) and several years in post-PhD relevant experience, ideally including experience in the pharmaceutical industry or biotech
  • Extensive experience in omics analysis methods relevant to drug discovery, with a focus on multiomics integration, in particular integration of proteomics and transcriptomics data
  • Solid programming and tech stack, proficiency in R or Python, version control, github/bitbucket, pipelines, FAIR data principles
  • Domain knowledge in eye diseases, neurological diseases, or metabolic diseases a plus
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, experience working with different stakeholders including lab scientists and computational scientists
