About the role

We are seeking a Strategic Finance Compute Lead to provide finance leadership for our long-term compute strategy and cloud service provider (CSP) spend. In this role, you will be a key partner to our compute engineering teams, providing financial expertise and guidance to optimize our capacity investments and drive strategic decision-making. As we continue to grow, you will play a crucial role developing financial models for strategic investment areas, analyzing spend patterns, and providing insights to optimize our infrastructure resources while planning for our future infrastructure needs. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams and collaborate with other members of the finance organization to align our capacity and cloud spend strategy with broader financial considerations.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Capacity Planning & Analysis

• Own and develop long-term (2+ years) capacity forecasts and scenario planning for infrastructure growth
• Lead strategic financial analysis for long-term capacity initiatives
• Lead ROI analysis for new platforms and optimization investments

Cloud Service Provider (CSP) Financial Planning & Analysis

• Own FP&A for all non-XPU CSP spend (CPU compute, storage, etc.)
• Lead efficiency optimization initiatives for non-XPU cloud resources with Core Resources team
• Develop forecast models and cost driver analyses for non-XPU spend
• Partner on CSP rate conversations and lead rate analysis across non-XPU spend
• Maintain deep expertise on CSP contract terms, pricing structures, and optimization opportunities
• Partner with Accounting and Core Resources on contract operationalization and compliance

You may be a good fit if you have:

• 7+ years of experience in strategic finance, private equity, growth equity, venture capital, consulting, or investment banking, preferably with cloud infrastructure or technology experience
• Exceptional analytical skills with an ability to synthesize data into compelling insights and develop complex financial operating models
• Extraordinary problem-solving and critical thinking abilities to navigate complex financial challenges
• Comfort working cross-functionally and are adept at communicating complex financial information to non-finance audiences
• Proven track record of partnering with technical teams to drive financial optimization initiatives
• Excitement about working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt well to change
• Possess a bias towards action, strong work ethic, and have experience driving operational outcomes under tight timelines
• Strong relationship building, business judgment, process management, and communication skills
• Are passionate about Anthropic's mission to build safe, transformative AI systems

Strong candidates may also have:

• 3+ years of experience specifically in cloud infrastructure financial management
• Experience working directly with major cloud service providers (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• MBA or other advanced degree in finance, economics, or business
• Background in AI, ML, or high-performance computing infrastructure
• Deep expertise in cloud service provider economics, contract structures, and pricing models
• Experience with chip architecture economics and optimization strategies
• Proficiency with financial modeling tools and languages (SQL, Python, Excel)

The expected salary range for this position is:

Annual Salary:$230,000—$310,000 USD

Logistics

Education requirements: We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.
