The Data Science & Analytics organization’s mission is to increase our speed, frequency and acumen of making decisions at scale by instilling a data-influenced approach to building products. We cover a wide area of the data spectrum including analytical data engineering, product analytics, experimentation, causal inference, statistical modeling and machine learning. Aligned and partnering with product verticals, we use this extensive tool belt to discover new opportunities and unmet use cases, influence and shape the product roadmap and prioritization, build data products and measure impact on our community of players and developers.

WHY MARKETPLACE?

Roblox is building the largest online marketplace for virtual goods that enable and advance self-expression and identity, and offer an earning opportunity for a large creative community.  This marketplace is a core part of democratizing creation and online identity.  In this space, as the Sr. Manager for Marketplace Data Science, you will leverage your expertise in marketplace design, analytics, economic theory, and causal inference to inform, evaluate, and lead the growth of the marketplace.  You will lead in crafting long-term strategy consistent with economic theory and incentives, and have your team lead in learning and implementation.  You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement  data-informed + principled-economics strategies that maximize the impact for our community.  Additionally, you will contribute more broadly in monetization, operating at the intersection of the marketplace, ads, and in-game monetization.  You will report to the Sr. Director of DS for Economy and Ads.

You Will:

• Lead a small and mighty team of data scientists and economists to focus on marketplace design, marketplace optimization, and long-term company growth, including pricing, policy, reporting, modeling, and strategic analyses
• Build a world-leading, principled virtual item economy to increase earnings and creativity opportunity for our community
• Partner directly with Marketplace leadership (product+eng) to advance principled and performant economic designs 
• Lead a data-informed strategy leveraging expertise in experimentation, mechanism design, econometrics, and causal inference methods
• Expand self-expression and identity through refinements that increase item creation, item quality, and market discovery
• Partner with the broader data science teams on shaping and iterating the roadmap for data science products/platform.

You Have:

• Advanced Degree and/or PhD in Economics, Statistics, Physics, Cognitive Science or other quantitative field
• 8+ years of relevant industry experience, preferably with background in platform business, marketplace design, matching markets, or pricing systems
• 3+ years managing technical and strategic data science teams
• Passion for our Roblox core values (respect the community, we are responsible, take the long view, and get stuff done) [here]
• Depth in causal inference statistics and methods 
• Demonstrated ability to drive product innovation in an area as a thought leader
• Ability to apply creative first-principles reasoning to solve ambiguous problems
• Ability to communicate analytic results and data storytelling to influence engineering teams and leaders

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Annual Salary Range$316,480—$366,350 USD

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
