POSITION SUMMARY

The Software Engineer supports the Distributed Common Ground System (DCGS) and STATEFARM programs by designing, developing, testing, and maintaining complex software systems that enable high-performance, mission-critical operations in support of Department of Defense intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) efforts.

 

This position plays a pivotal role in integrating advanced computer vision, machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities into secure, modular software environments. The Software Engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including Data Scientists, ML Engineers, and hardware developers to accelerate the delivery of mission insights by streamlining data processing, automating labeling, and optimizing model deployment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Design, code, and maintain secure, scalable software solutions that support ISR and mission system operations.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to ensure seamless integration of software with physical systems.
  • Develop and optimize computer vision pipelines, including video analytics, object tracking, and feature extraction.
  • Accelerate image processing tasks such as segmentation, similar-object labeling, clustering, and active learning.
  • Leverage AI/ML methods to enhance metadata, improve model validation, and increase the speed of dataset enrichment.
  • Deploy automation technologies to reduce time spent on data exploration, cleaning, and model training.
  • Migrate and scale vision-based analytics pipelines to secure environments while ensuring operational reliability.
  • Implement iterative processes to enhance object detection, motion tracking, and visual feature recognition.
  • Participate in Agile sprint cycles, including planning, development, integration, and review phases.
  • Support software lifecycle management, including secure deployment, version control, and compliance with DoD cyber mandates.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to capture requirements, improve software usability, and deliver validated, mission-ready builds aligned with quarterly delivery cycles.
  • Maintain robust technical documentation and contribute to DevSecOps processes, ensuring continuous delivery in secure, classified environments.

EDUCATION/TRAINING

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Preferred: Master’s Degree in AI, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, or Systems Engineering.
  • Required Certification: IAT Level II (e.g., CompTIA Security+) upon hire.
  • Preferred Certifications: Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP), AWS/Azure ML/AI credentials, or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5 years of software engineering experience with a focus on secure and mission-critical applications.
  • Demonstrated experience with computer vision technologies, video/image analytics, and metadata processing.
  • Hands-on experience with ML/AI pipelines, model training, active learning, and image data enrichment.
  • Familiarity with Agile development environments, CI/CD integration, and software configuration management.
  • Experience supporting ISR or national defense-related applications is strongly preferred.

SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Strong programming skills in Python, C++, or similar languages commonly used in AI/ML and CV applications.
  • Proficiency in libraries and frameworks such as OpenCV, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Scikit-learn.
  • Ability to analyze large image datasets and implement efficient automation for feature extraction and classification.
  • Skilled in deploying software to secure cloud or hybrid environments.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to innovate in time-sensitive operational settings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and stakeholder engagement.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to use a computer and related equipment for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds occasionally.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This is an Onsite position that requires work to be performed onsite at a government location at Warner Robins, GA.
  • Working indoors in an office environment.
  • Includes CONUS and OCONUS travel (10-20%) to government facilities for integration, testing, or collaboration.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background screening.
  • Must be able to pass random drug screenings.
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a Top Secret with SCI eligibility clearance.
  • Must be able to be cleared for base or site access.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be available for a flexible work schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must hold a current IAT Level II CompTIA Security + certification (or equivalent).
  • Must possess a current U.S. Passport.

Salary/Rate Range $128K-$152K
