The Role

We're looking for a seasoned International Market Researcher to join Block's Customer Insights team, serving as the lead insights partner for our Afterpay businesses in ANZ, Canada, and the UK while also supporting other Block products—such as Square—where international expertise is needed.

This is a critical, high impact role focused on driving regional research strategy, owning our Afterpay brand health tracking program, and delivering rich, actionable insights that guide decision-making across product, marketing, sales, and brand.

You'll operate independently and asynchronously, reporting to a U.S.-based manager and acting as the primary insights lead for your markets. You'll thrive in a fast-paced ambiguous environment building strong strong partnerships, surfacing insights, and influencing decisions across time zones.

This role blends deep quantitative skills, strategic thinking, and Ai-forward innovation, ensuring our products and campaigns resonate locally and scale globally with impact.

You Will

  • Own the Afterpay brand health tracking program across ANZ, UK, and Canada — including survey design, instrumentation, data quality, reporting frameworks, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Lead quantitative research initiatives to shape product, sales, marketing, and brand decisions in the Square AU and Afterpay international markets.
  • Represent the voice of the customer and the region to global teams — advocating for local insights in strategic forums.
  • Integrate AI techniques into research practices such as using LLM-powered tools for summarising and generating insights.
  • Collaborate across Product, Data Science, Marketing, Comms, and Strategy to scope, prioritise, and execute research aligned to business goals.
  • Synthesize data from various sources — survey, transactional, behavioural — into compelling, executive-ready insights.
  • Build scalable, repeatable methodologies for sampling, weighting, and dashboarding regional research results.
  • Act as a strategic partner for merchant and customer experience programs, including consumer-facing and B2B insights.
  • Operate independently, communicating regularly with your U.S.-based manager and aligning on global priorities while driving execution locally.

You Have

  • 8+ years of experience in quantitative market research, brand tracking, or consumer insights, with proven impact in international markets.
  • Deep experience managing brand tracking programs, with a focus on continuous measurement and delivering business-relevant metrics.
  • Strong statistical knowledge (sampling, weighting, segmentation, regression, etc.).
  • Fluency in survey platforms (Qualtrics, Q, Confirmit) and data tools (Python, R, SPSS, Tableau).
  • Applied knowledge of and openness to using AI tools (i.e. ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) in research for automation, synthesis and insight acceleration.
  • Ability to communicate across time zones and work asynchronously with global teammates.
  • Excellent storytelling, influence, and presentation skills — including experience with senior/executive audiences.
  • A strategic mindset and high comfort level with ambiguity, complexity, and change.
  • Familiarity with the fintech, payments, or BNPL landscape, especially in ANZ, UK, and Canada.
