SUMMARY

The R&D Engineer II will be a key contributor to the design, development, and maintenance of our cutting-edge software products focused on simulating the behavior of engineering materials. This role involves developing and calibrating advanced material models across multiple length scales. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in computational mechanics, software development, and material modeling, with experience in areas such as damage modeling, multiscale techniques, material model calibration, and machine learning algorithms.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, and deployment of material modeling and simulation software.
  • Develop and implement methodologies and software tools for the calibration of material models and material systems.
  • Explore and implement machine learning algorithms and techniques for material model development, calibration, and prediction.
  • Conduct thorough software testing, including unit, integration, and system testing, to ensure the reliability, performance, and accuracy of the software.
  • Research, write, and maintain clear and concise technical documentation.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in material modeling, computational mechanics, software development, and machine learning.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline, with at least 2 years of experience in software development for engineering applications, with a focus on material constitutive and damage modeling, multiscale modeling, and machine learning, or Master's Degree
  • Strong foundation in computational mechanics and numerical methods (e.g., Finite Element Method).
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C/C++, and ideally experience with Fortran.
  • Experience with software development methodologies, version control systems (e.g., Git), and software testing frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing material models and familiarity with material model calibration techniques and optimization algorithms.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with commercial finite element analysis software.
  • Hands-on experience with developing and applying multiscale modeling techniques.
  • Strong understanding of material failure mechanisms and damage modeling approaches.
  • Experience in applying machine learning techniques to applied mechanics problems.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based software development and deployment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Customer-focused mindset with the ability to understand and address user needs.
