As a Principal Data Scientist, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining infrastructure that powers statistical data analysis and machine learning for the OCI Resilience-Reliability Engineering organization. You will work closely with other data scientists, software engineers, and stakeholders to develop and deploy scalable, efficient, and reliable data pipelines and lead initiatives to deliver and improve reporting and insight capabilities.


We are seeking a hands-on leader to spearhead analytic capabilities that directly influence how OCI understands, measures, learns from, and responds to incidents. You will be responsible for definition and development of cutting-edge technologies that will enable OCI to scale analysis of large and diverse data sets, operationalize findings, and measurably validate improvements in incident response and system availability KPIs.  You will provide technical and scientific leadership within an organization of world-class engineering teams driving fewer, smaller, and shorter incidents for OCI and our customers.
 

  • Identify operational stories within large and diverse data sets.
  • Implement and fine-tune AI inference pipelines to summarize and classify data.
  • Development and productionalize ML models to detect trends and anomalies in time series data.
  • Use machine learning, data mining, and statistical techniques to identify actionable solutions to reoccurring problems.
  • Create and optimize algorithms for scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure for data warehousing, data lakes, and data governance.
  • Work across teams to build and integrate data pipelines.
  • Improve data quality, integrity, and security across systems.
  • Develop and maintain metrics and monitoring to ensure data pipeline performance and reliability.
  • Demonstrate initiative-taking, self-sufficiency, influence, and team building skills while creating and socializing innovative machine learning and AI solutions.
  • Collaborate with other Applied Scientists and Engineers for continuous improvement with best practices and tools for machine learning, model development, and AI agentic frameworks. 
  • Champion software engineering and data science principles.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to the team and partners, contributing to knowledge and best practices.
  • Stay up to date with the latest developments in machine learning, statistics, and data science and apply new techniques to improve existing processes and products.
  • Work closely with business teams to understand business requirements and proactively provide new data-driven insights. 
  • Address business and customer problems using statistical and data science techniques to achieve business goals and improve operational KPIs. Provide actionable insights from models to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Perform ad hoc and in-depth analyses and present insights through dashboards & visualizations.
  • Create thorough documentation from design through implementation and operation.

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Extensive Experience: 6+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, and software engineering, with a focus on developing and deploying ML models in production, preferably at a large cloud service provider.
  • Educational Background: Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Masters) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field. Relevant degrees or certifications in machine learning or AI are a plus.
  • Strong programming skills in Java and Python. Familiarity with Kotlin is a plus.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, Weka, or Scikit-lear.
  • Experience using cloud service providers such as OCI, AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Oracle Analytics Cloud, Tableau, Power BI, or D3.js.
  • Extensive experience with time-series data, forecasting, clustering, anomaly detection, feature engineering, and model optimization techniques.
  • AI and AI Agent Frameworks: Knowledge and hands-on experience with AI and AI agent frameworks, particularly OCI Generative AI Agents - Agent Development Kit (ADK) is a plus. 
  • Experience analyzing data, generating insights, and telling stories with data.
  • Experience with Service Reliability/Availability, Incident Response, Post Incident Problem Management is a significant advantage.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address potential issues proactively. Experience in troubleshooting and optimizing machine learning models, systems, and data quality issues.
  • Business and Leadership Skills: Proven track record of collaboration, strong communication and influencing skills both within team and across organizations, including presenting complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders or executives. Expert business skills to engage and understand business problems and priorities, then explain how AI or Data Science solutions provide impactful business insights.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Eagerness to continuously learn and adapt to innovative technologies and methodologies.

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $120,100 to $251,600 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
