Job Description

Purpose of the role

To design, develop, implement, and support mathematical, statistical, and machine learning models and analytics used in business decision-making

Accountabilities

  • Design analytics and modelling solutions to complex business problems using domain expertise.
  • Collaboration with technology to specify any dependencies required for analytical solutions, such as data, development environments and tools.
  • Development of high performing, comprehensively documented analytics and modelling solutions, demonstrating their efficacy to business users and independent validation teams.
  • Implementation of analytics and models in accurate, stable, well-tested software and work with technology to operationalise them.
  • Provision of ongoing support for the continued effectiveness of analytics and modelling solutions to users.
  • Demonstrate conformance to all Barclays Enterprise Risk Management Policies, particularly Model Risk Policy.
  • Ensure all development activities are undertaken within the defined control environment.

We are seeking a highly motivated AVP-level Quantitative Analyst to join our Climate Risk and Portfolio Management team. This is a high-impact role focused on the quantification and management of climate and catastrophe risk. You will play a key role in developing the firm's Climate Risk Appetite Framework and advancing portfolio-level risk analytics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop quantitative frameworks to assess and manage the firm’s exposure to climate-related and catastrophe risks.
  • Perform portfolio aggregation, data quality assessments, and create stress-testing scenarios and heat maps.
  • Conduct impact analyses and forecasts to inform portfolio risk decisions and support strategic planning.
  • Design and implement cutting-edge analytics to optimize risk-return trade-offs and drive sustainable portfolio growth.
  • Establish rigorous processes for defining and monitoring risk appetite, with a focus on climate-related exposures.
  • Blend quantitative models with qualitative insights to enhance innovation and accelerate problem-solving.
  • Evaluate and interpret results from third-party catastrophe models, integrating them into internal risk frameworks.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders across Risk, Finance, Strategy, and external model providers to align on climate risk methodologies and findings.
  • Prepare and deliver high-quality presentations and reports to senior management, highlighting key climate risk exposures, performance expectations, and strategic opportunities.
  • Ensure all risk activities comply with regulatory standards and internal policies, maintaining a strong control environment and promoting a culture of ethical risk-taking.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Strong programming skills in Python for data analysis and model development.
  • Ability to communicate complex quantitative concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional environment.

Desirable Skills:

  • Understanding of portfolio risk management concepts and catastrophe/climate risk modelling.
  • Experience with data visualization tools and reporting dashboards is a plus.
  • Exposure to ESG or climate-related financial risk frameworks.
  • Proficiency in C++, R, SQL, or SAS.
