Position: Technical Lead, Embedded Software,
Location: Cork-Ireland/ Limerick-Ireland/Edinburgh – UK/Cluj, Romania.
About the Role
We are seeking a Staff/Technical Lead to drive the development of next-generation embedded software frameworks AI-enhanced runtime for cutting-edge SoCs. This role requires a deep embedded systems expertise, a strong foundation in developer tooling, and the ability to lead and grow a technical team in embedded software.
You will play a critical role in defining and implementing modern, best-in-class embedded software frameworks that will be utilized in many different vertical business areas. Specifically, you will help integrate AI/ML technologies into embedded SoC hardware tying the signal chain to the AI interpreter real-time processing software.
This is a compelling opportunity for someone interested in Embedded, and ML and looking to transition into technical leadership, while still being hands-on in defining and driving strategic embedded framework design and implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and drive the architecture, design, and roadmap of embedded software development using modern C/C++ language .
- Lead a small team of engineers while providing technical guidance and mentorship, with a path to management across embedded software development.
- Develop and maintain Open-Source software that integrates embedded debugging, profiling, system configuration, SDKs, middleware, and automation frameworks.
- Work closely with hardware IP teams and firmware development teams to define and implement developer-friendly frameworks for mixed-signal, heterogeneous embedded devices.
- Help integrate AI/ML capabilities by supporting the development of an AI runtime framework for ADI’s embedded hardware, enabling seamless model integration and deployment.
- Advocate for best-in-class embedded software development environments, ensuring high-quality documentation and smooth developer experiences.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including open-source communities and industry groups, to influence the embedded tooling ecosystem.
- Explore AI-driven automation to reduce debugging time, optimize firmware development, and streamline build processes.
Key Qualifications
- Strong embedded systems experience (bare-metal, RTOS, or embedded Linux).
- Proficiency in C, C++, Python, with experience in firmware and low-level software development.
- Understanding of embedded toolchains (LLVM, GCC, binutils, Clang, GDB, IAR).
- AI/ML experience applied to software runtime, such as Tensor Flow Lite Micro, Executorch, or IREE.
- Experience with build systems (CMake, Make, Ninja) and source control best practices (Git, GitHub, CI/CD).
- Technical leadership experience – mentoring engineers, leading projects, defining architecture.
Bonus Skills (Nice to Have, But Not Mandatory)
- Experience with Zephyr RTOS and open-source RTOS ecosystems.
- Experience contributing to and working with open-source ecosystems.
- Understanding of heterogeneous architectures (ARM, RISC-V, DSPs, custom SoCs).
- Experience integrating AI/ML for embedded optimization or tooling automation.
- Familiarity with TypeScript, Node.js, Rust, etc for command-line tooling and web-based developer tools.
