Company Description

INFICON is a leading provider of Smart Manufacturing/Industry 4.0 software solutions that enhance productivity and quality of tools, processes, and complete factories, as well as innovative instrumentation, critical sensor technologies. These analysis, measurement and control products are essential for gas leak detection in air conditioning/refrigeration and automotive manufacturing. They are vital to equipment manufacturers and end-users in the complex fabrication of semiconductors and thin film coatings for optics, flat panel displays, solar cells and industrial vacuum coating applications. Other users of our vacuum-based processes include the life sciences, research, aerospace, packaging, heat treatment, laser cutting and many other industrial processes. We also leverage our expertise in vacuum technology to provide unique, toxic chemical analysis products for emergency response, security, and environmental health and safety.

Job Description

We’re seeking a versatile Data Scientist / LLM Engineer who is passionate about solving real-world semiconductor manufacturing problems with advanced analytics, machine learning, and large language models (LLMs). You’ll join a high-impact team to build, fine-tune, and integrate LLM-powered solutions into production systems that deliver measurable value and delight our large customer base of manufacturing facilities around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy machine learning features and applications with a focus on LLM-based solutions (e.g., RAG systems, analytical chat bots, plain language data analysis).

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into modern LLM solutions.

  • Prototype and scale natural language processing (NLP) systems using state-of-the-art tools (e.g., LangChain/LangGraph, Ollama, etc.).

  • Contribute to internal frameworks for data pipelines, inference services, and model governance.

  • Own pathfinding work to understand and execute on deployment options for LLM-based applications at customer sites.

  • Conduct data wrangling, feature engineering, and model evaluation on structured and unstructured datasets.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • 3+ years experience in Semiconductor Manufacturing

  • Strong proficiency in Python and data science libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn).

  • Hands-on experience with LLMs and NLP toolkits (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph, etc.).

  • Familiarity with modern LLM architectures (e.g., GPT, LLaMA, Claude) and prompt engineering strategies.

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS or Azure) and ML ops tools (e.g., MLflow, Docker, FastAPI).

  • Proven ability to translate ambiguous problems into clear analytical solutions.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field. Master’s or PhD preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases (e.g., ChromaDB, Pinecone), and embeddings.

  • Experience with Oracle, SQL & PL/SQL

  • Exposure to or experience in web application development and familiarity with frameworks like .NET

  • Applied Industrial Engineering / Factory Operations experience

  • Prior work integrating LLMs with web apps or internal enterprise tools.

  • Experience with fine-tuning or distillation of transformer models.

  • Experience developing MCP servers

  • Contributions to open-source projects or publications in NLP/ML.
