Responsibilities
- Lead reuse projects and pursuits including R&D, alternatives assessments, initial source water characterization, process modeling, and disinfection crediting.
- Participate in and leading applied research related to reuse including disinfecting pathogens, removing chemicals, and applying AI/ML for more reliable and efficient operation.
- Work with the Water Reuse Technical Practice and Subject Matter Experts to identify and develop reuse R&D opportunities throughout the cycle from enhanced source control programs through distribution system impacts.
- Collaborate with Carollo’s Wastewater and Drinking Water Technical Practices especially on matters relating to reuse such as nitrogen removal and blending impacts.
- Contribute to Carollo’s national thought-leadership in reuse by participating in national committees, presenting at conferences, and publishing peer-reviewed articles.
- Communicate Carollo’s reuse innovation through digestible media such as videos, podcasts, and short articles.
- Identify innovative reuse treatment concepts to test at Carollo’s Applied Research Center.
- Analyze data from initial source water characterization and bench and pilot studies.
- Assist with the preparation of technical memoranda, reports and electronic deliverables.
- Develop and grow network of reuse industry leaders as a technical resource and for teaming opportunities.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering or related discipline. PhD preferred.
- 2-5 years of directly-relevant experience in reuse-related research.
- Experience pursuing and managing R&D projects for organizations such as the Water Research Foundation (WRF), US Bureau of Reclamation (USBR), US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the National Alliance for Water Innovation (NAWI).
- Knowledge of reuse, drinking water and wastewater treatment systems.
- Experience conducting applied research on treatment, monitoring, or source investigation.
- Experience conducting or analyzing pilot- and bench-scale treatment testing.
- Working knowledge of public health, toxicity, and regulatory development as they pertain to pathogens and emerging chemicals.
- Application of engineering principles including critical thinking, analysis, statistics, and innovative techniques.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with groups and individuals at all levels in an organization
- Highly motivated, creative, articulate, and self-starting.
- Proficiency in R or python.
Pay Range
$90,000 to $120,000 annually. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
