As a Data Engineer and Power BI Specialist, you will play a critical role in developing and maintaining data pipelines, integrating multiple data sources, and designing dynamic reporting solutions. You will be responsible for enabling data-driven decision-making across our warehousing and distribution operations by utilizing Power BI and other data engineering tools. Your work will help improve operational efficiency, inventory management, supply chain optimization, and overall business intelligence. 


The Data Engineer and Power BI Specialist is a full-time, salary, exempt position. Business hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 5:00 pm. 


Key Responsibilities:

Data Engineering

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to integrate data from various sources (warehouse management systems, transportation management systems, Paylocity).
  • Build and optimize data pipelines to support data processing and analytics in a warehousing and distribution context.
  • Work with stakeholders to identify key data sources and ensure data quality, consistency, and security.
  • Develop and maintain relational and NoSQL databases for storing operational, transactional, and historical data.
  • Implement data validation, cleansing, and transformation processes to ensure the integrity and quality of data used for analytics.

Power BI Development:

  • Create and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports to provide real-time insights into warehousing, inventory, and distribution operations.
  • Design and implement data visualizations that are user-friendly and actionable for cross-functional teams, including logistics, operations, transportation, and management.
  • Provide training and support for business users on Power BI and self-service reporting capabilities.
  • Implement and manage Power BI data models, ensuring performance optimization, security, and scalability.
  • Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track supply chain efficiency, warehouse throughput, order accuracy, and other key logistics performance metrics.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with warehouse managers, logistics coordinators, and business leaders to understand data needs and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams and other data professionals to ensure proper data governance, integration, and reporting strategies.
  • Provide actionable insights to support business decisions and optimize operations, including inventory forecasting, demand planning, and route optimization.

Data Quality & Performance:

  • Ensure high data accuracy, reliability, and timeliness by continuously monitoring and refining data systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with data discrepancies, report accuracy, or performance.
  • Manage the ongoing maintenance of Power BI reports, ensuring they remain up to date with the evolving needs of the business.


Requirements

Technical Skills:

  • Strong experience in data engineering, with a deep understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, and database management.
  • Proficiency in Power BI for building reports, dashboards, and data models.
  • Experience with SQL, DAX (Data Analysis Expressions), and Power Query for data transformation and analysis.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and data warehousing solutions.
  • Strong programming skills in languages like Python, R, or similar for data manipulation and automation.
  • Experience working with data pipelines and workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Azure Data Factory, etc.).

Industry Knowledge:

  • Previous experience in warehousing, logistics, or distribution environments is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of supply chain processes, inventory management, and order fulfillment operations.
  • Familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Transportation Management Systems (TMS), or related software.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into business-friendly language.
  • Problem-solving orientation with the ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in prioritizing and managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
