As a Software Engineer in our Risk department, you will play a critical role in developing and maintaining cutting-edge risk detection and prevention systems that protect PayPal's users and merchants from financial loss. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, build, and deploy scalable and efficient solutions that leverage machine learning, data analytics, and automation to identify and mitigate potential risks, ensuring the integrity of our platform and driving business growth.

Your work will directly contribute to reducing the risk of fraudulent transactions, improving the overall security and integrity of our platform, and enhancing the customer experience. By automating risk detection and decisioning, you will help us to increase efficiency, reduce false positives, and improve the accuracy of our risk models, ultimately driving business growth and revenue. Your innovative solutions will have a direct impact on the bottom line, enabling us to provide a safer and more secure payment experience for our customers worldwide.

Your day to day

In your day-to-day role you will:

• Design, develop and maintain software development products and platforms, integrate machine learning algorithms into E2E automation pipeline, build up AI applications and UI portal. The platform/infrastructure will be used to automate machine learning strategies/solutions for PayPal global risk management, making sound decisions that balance risk, user experience and financial performance. 
• Guarantee product and code quality by establishing best practices like code review, automatic testing, CI/CD.
• Develop tools which could be used to reduce human efforts and improve efficiency
• Collaborate efficiently with software engineers, data scientists and engineering teams across the globe to plan, design, develop, test, and maintain teams’ products.
• Participate in the formulations and implementation of departmental processes, procedures, policies and standards. 
• Exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results on matters of significance to the business. 
• Look for improvement and innovation opportunities with business impact. Provide a source of high-quality ideas.  

What do you need to bring

• Bachelor’s degree in a computer science or engineering field with 3+ year professional work experience in a relevant field. Or Master’s degree with 2+ year profession experience or equivalent knowledge.

• Proficient/Hands on with Python, React, NodeJS, JavaScript, SQL
• Hands on web application development skill (React/HTML5/CSS/JS) 
• Excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms. 
• Excellent problem-solving skills – ability to triage and resolve critical tech issues without supervision. 
• Expertise required in object-oriented design methodology and application development 
• Proven experience in employing engineering/analytics solutions on real world problems. 
• Ability to work independently and proficiently on well-defined projects; Focuses primarily on how to achieve overall business objectives of a project with speed and quality 
• Effective inter-personal skills. Manage relationship with key partners across different functions. Able to collaborate with remote teams effectively. 
• Skilled in Presenting – can effectively communicate in large or small group settings.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience in big data technology such as Big Query
• Knowledge on Machine Learning application pipeline is a very big plus
• Industry experience in payments, e-commerce, or financial services is a strong plus.
