Computing Architect (Information/Data Architecture)

The Boeing Global Services organization is seeking a Computing Architect 4 for an exciting opportunity with the C-17 Avionics and Flight Controls Organization (AVFC) team in Long Beach, CA. The C-17 platform is a mature airlifter for air forces of the United States and allied countries. This position plays an important role in ensuring a robust computing environment and infrastructure to support ongoing software development activities and integration with laboratories across multiple sites.

The ideal candidate will assume computing infrastructure design, support, and integration responsibilities for the C-17 Avionics and Flight Controls organization.

Position Responsibilities::

  • Administer UNIX/Linux systems connected via a large-scale, high-availability network
  • Specify, procure, build/configure, deploy, and maintain UNIX/Linux workstations, servers, network infrastructure, software applications/installations, and related equipment.
  • Identify technical requirements and constraints while offering guidance, troubleshooting, support, and assistance to a varied team, including engineers, developers, technical leads, project managers.
  • Ensure accurate and consistent technical documentation is created, maintained, and updated regularly.
  • Administer or manage virtual environments (particularly VMware).
  • Expertise in writing shell scripts or light programming in Korn Shell, Bourne Shell, and C shell.
  • Interact and communicate across all organizational staffing levels including external sponsors and third-party collaborators and to clearly present and convey complex technical information through both oral and written means.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate degree from an accredited institution of learning.
  • 10+ yrs of relative work experience
  • 5+ yrs of experience supporting military aviation industry

 Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience administering Linux servers and workstations (particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle LINUX, Solaris 2.5 to Solaris 10 and some HP OLD systems).
  • Experience with integration of software development and laboratory environments
  • Experience with multi-site management of computing infrastructure and environments
  • Experience in Boeing Data/Information Systems

Summary pay range: $130,900 – $177,100
