About the AIA Labs
AIA Labs is an in-house venture at Bridgewater Associates that is focused on using AI (Artificial Intelligence) to generate returns in markets. Its goal is to develop capabilities that enhance Bridgewater’s existing strategies as well as to manage a dedicated AI strategy for clients.  Bridgewater’s AIA Labs is combining a broad set of AI tools (de-optimized tabular data models, reasoning tools, and LLMs) using proprietary techniques developed in-house to build an AI-based Reasoning Engine capable of performing fundamental, systematic investment research.

About the Role

We are seeking a PyTorch Engineer to build, optimize, and deploy ML models at scale. This role is ideal for engineers who have strong PyTorch expertise and a deep understanding of model optimization, with some exposure to low-level performance improvements (e.g., CUDA, Triton, TensorRT).

You will work closely with researchers to implement state-of-the-art models, accelerate training and inference, and optimize models for efficiency. While this is not a compiler engineering role, a solid grasp of PyTorch internals and performance profiling is a strong plus.

You Will Drive the Following Responsibilities

  • Model Implementation & Optimization: Develop and refine deep learning models in PyTorch, ensuring efficiency and scalability.
  • Inference Acceleration: Optimize models for deployment using tools like TorchScript, ONNX, TensorRT, Triton, and torch.compile.
  • Performance Profiling & Debugging: Identify and resolve bottlenecks using torch.profiler, nvprof, Nsight, and memory profiling.
  • Custom Layers & Autograd: Build custom PyTorch modules and implement efficient backward passes when necessary.
  • Scalability & Deployment: Work with the ML Ops team to scale models for distributed training and inference.
  • Collaboration with Researchers: Translate research insights into robust, high-performance ML systems.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in a technically rigorous/elite environment with modern full stack tech stacks.
  • Strong PyTorch expertise (torch.nn, torch.autograd, torch.compile, torch.fx).
    • Solid understanding of model architectures (e.g., Transformers, CNNs) and deep learning fundamentals.
    • Experience with model optimization (e.g., mixed precision, checkpointing, memory-efficient execution).
    • Ability to profile and debug PyTorch performance (e.g., CUDA memory issues, kernel execution time).
  • Strong engineering background (Python, structured software development, scalable ML workflows).

Nice to Have Qualifications

  • Some familiarity with CUDA kernel development.
    • Experience with Triton or TensorRT for inference acceleration.
    • Understanding of distributed training frameworks (e.g., DeepSpeed, FSDP, Horovod).
    • Familiarity with PyTorch compilation (torch.compile, torch.fx, MLIR optimizations).

Location Requirements

The anticipated onsite requirement for this role is four days per week at our New York City campus.

Compensation Band

The compensation range for this role is $500,000 to $800,000 inclusive of base salary, discretionary bonus, and long-term incentive. The expected base salary for this role is between 40-66% of the range.

Bridgewater Employee Benefits
