Job Summary
The City of Mississauga is seeking a visionary and seasoned leader to spearhead the development of our business intelligence capabilities. As the Manager of Business Intelligence, you will be at the forefront of driving strategic and operational excellence in data, analytics, and AI initiatives. Your role will encompass defining and implementing best practices, standardizing reporting and analytics workflows, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, validated data products to internal stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include championing the adoption of BI tools, leading automation efforts, and optimizing data architectures to enhance business services. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring robust data governance and compliance, mentoring a team of skilled data professionals, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to cultivate a self-service data analytics environment. This environment will empower stakeholders with actionable insights and elevate data analysis capabilities across the city.
• Develop and implement Data, Data Analytics, AI, and Open Data strategies and policies.
• Manage a team of 12 staff including Data Analytics, AI, GIS Supervisor and seven GIS professionals.
• Supervise the creation of Data Analytics and Dashboards.
• Support Self-Service Data Analytics and democratization of data.
• Coordinate the roll-out and support of AI initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and policies.
• Promote and oversee the Open Data site.
• Oversee GIS Data Warehouse and maintenance of core data sets.
Skills and Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, applied math, business analytics, information management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a managerial role within Business Intelligence or Data Analytics.
• Project Management Institute (PMI) professional certification.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI.
• Experience integrating data sets from various sources for analysis.
• Experience with data modeling and data processing tools, such as SSIS, SSRS and FME.
• Understanding of privacy legislation related to the protection and safeguarding of personal information.
• You have expert knowledge of the theories, principles and best practices in the field of analytics, performance measurement and evaluation, information management including quantitative and qualitative data modeling and analysis and evidence informed decision making.
• You have extensive knowledge and experience in leading research, data interpretation, trend analyses, and program evaluations.
• You have experience developing and delivering data analyses, operational policies, and standards to deliver consistent analytical frameworks across all divisional programs.
• You have superior oral and written communication, business relationship and consultative skills to develop strategies, plans, provide consultative services to senior management and to prepare strategic business cases, feasibility assessments, briefing notes and response to information requests.
