This is a 12 month fixed term contract role.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to work within a mature and high performing change and technology team on market leading initiatives; designing and building capabilities for the London Market business unit and leveraging emerging technology to directly shape our future operating model.

Our goal is to digitise, enhance and augment our key processes enabling more data informed and therefore profitable decisions more efficiently and quickly. We use the latest technologies and skills to approach problems in a new and innovative way in order to deliver lasting value to the business.

The role will be part of an agile cross functional squad, working alongside data scientists, machine learning engineers, data engineers, software engineers, business change and SMEs. We are curious and inquisitive, challenging ourselves and our stakeholders to do things better, faster or cheaper. Working within our team is exciting and fast-paced.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Data Analyst to own and manage the data assets for the squad, in particular, supporting the data scientists by preparing and validating data to train, test and evaluate our in-house data science models. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring data quality and integrity, enabling the team to develop innovative data-driven solutions delivered through an agile framework.

Principal responsibilities within this role will include:

  • Data Preparation: Collect, clean, and pre-process data from various sources to ensure it is ready for analysis. Handle missing data, outliers, and ensure data quality.
  • Data Validation: Verify the accuracy, consistency and completeness of data sets and model outputs. Perform data validation checks and ensure data integrity throughout the data lifecycle.
  • Data Evaluation: Analyse and interpret data sets to identify trends, patterns, and insights. Provide actionable recommendations based on data analysis.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with data scientists, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver high-quality data solutions in an agile and responsive manner.
  • Reporting: Develop and maintain reports and dashboards to continuously monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of our models and data solutions, perform and record root cause analysis on data issues and identify areas for adjustment as necessary.
  • Communication: Present data and findings in a clear and understandable manner for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Knowledge, skills and experience we expect you to have to fit into this role will include:

  • Ability to elicit and record data requirements, definitions and data quality rules for data assets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both technical and business contexts.
  • Ability to understand, consolidate disparate information sources into summary metrics
  • Ability to present data in a clear and compelling way using tools like Tableau or Power BI and communicate insights effectively.
  • Strong ability in Excel; curiosity with programming languages such as SQL, Python.
  • Ability to pro-actively investigate issues to determine their root cause.
  • Self motivated, task driven and with a strong attention to detail and quality in every aspect of work. 

If you have been exposed to any of the following it would be highly desirable to bring the following to Hiscox:

  • Prior experience of Lloyd’s of London or the Insurance industry. 
  • Prior experience in data analysis or data management.
  • Previous experience managing metadata records including data dictionary and data cataloguing.
  • Previous experience working in agile projects and related tools such as Jira, Confluence or other collaboration tools.
