Role

As a Technical Lead Manager and senior research leader in robotics and AI, you will have the opportunity to join our R&D team working on novel robotics capabilities that have impact in real world applications. You will work alongside a team of researchers and engineers developing novel machine learning, reinforcement learning, and foundation models for AI-enabled robotics capabilities in the areas of robot manipulation, robot perception, and robot motion planning. You possess strong coding skills, strong interest in hand-on robotics, and are excited about making real-world robots significantly more capable than they are today at performing useful tasks in real-world environments. Your role involves developing systems to allow robots to better perceive, understand and interact with the environment, enabling more advanced and more reliable manipulation capabilities and making them more accessible in helping in societally important tasks. With the broader engineering team and industrial partners, your work will bring promising prototypes to real world, practical, applications. You will lead a team or project area, setting directions and driving towards impactful solutions. You should be excited and curious to work with new technologies as you discover creative solutions to new meaningful problems applying AI in robotics.

How your work moves the mission forward

  • Lead research and development efforts on novel, cutting-edge, sensor-guided dexterous manipulation capabilities for industrial robots.
  • Design, implement, test, and maintain innovative software features in simulation and real robots to expand Intrinsic's manipulation capabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with researchers at Google DeepMind Robotics, Universities, and other research labs to bring solutions to the real world.
  • Bring promising prototypes in dexterous manipulation to real world, practical applications with the broader engineering team and industrial partners.
  • Document and communicate your work for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Set directions and drive towards solutions for your team or project area.
  • Closely interact with a distributed team across three continents.

Skills you will need to be successful

  • PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Robotics or a related field.
  • Professional work proficiency with C++ and/or Python.
  • Proven ability to lead and work with a team, setting directions and driving towards solutions.
  • Experience leading project teams to build robotic systems.
  • Domain knowledge about robotics and/or industrial automation.
  • Motivation to closely collaborate with partners and cross functional teams.
  • Networking within academic and industrial research communities.

Skills that will differentiate your candidacy

  • PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Machine Learning & AI,  or a similar technical field.
  • Experience in developing the entire stack of robot applications, ranging from advanced algorithms to driving actuators.
  • Domain knowledge in robotics control/algorithms, artificial intelligence, planning, motion control.
  • Experience in software design and development for hardware-software systems or real-time systems using C++.
  • Domain knowledge in motion control, sensor-based motion control, trajectory generation, motion optimization.
  • Domain knowledge in physical robotics simulation and sim-to-real approaches in robotics.
  • Domain knowledge in motion planning, optimization, kinematics, trajectory generation.
  • Experience in developing end-to-end robot applications that involve advanced computer vision algorithms and dexterous manipulation tasks.
  • Experience working with academic researchers.
  • Experience working with large software systems.
