Job Description

The Process Chemistry department is responsible for the scale-up of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) for the use in preclinical and early clinical studies.  The Separations group is a part of Process Chemistry and is responsible for preparative scale purification of APIs in a GMP environment using reverse phase, normal phase, chiral phase and other types of chromatography.  The separations team also works collaboratively to identify trace impurities and deliver other chromatography driven results with our project teams.  Training in both separation science as well as organic synthesis is required.

The Senior Scientist II Chemistry position has these key responsibilities: 

  • Direct workflow around chromatographic separations to facilitate project goals across different projects, modalities and phases of development.
  • Keep accurate and current records of research and/or project-related documents according to AbbVie policies.
  • Staying current with advances in the separations field.  Act as advocate to integrate this knowledge into the group’s research efforts.  Generate new research or development strategies to effectively address project and divisional goals/needs.  Collaborate with functional and technical experts to facilitate scientific achievement. 
  • Show flexibility in providing support in Process Chemistry as project demands require.

 

 

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • A PhD in organic or analytical chemistry and 2-4 years of experience; MS in organic or analytical chemistry and xx years of experience; BS in organic or analytical chemistry and xx years of experience
  • Experience leading direct reports
  • Experience with chromatography at large scale and in a GMP environment.
  • Experience with handling and separating potent compounds
  • Experience in working with small molecules, antibody drug conjugates, drug linkers and peptides
  • Experience with machine learning, including the ability to write codes in Python
  • Track record of seeking out new information in the literature and incorporate this into individual projects as well as the overall program

Level and compensation will be commensurate with experience.
