Royal Caribbean Group’s IT Architect Team has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Data Architect, reporting to the Enterprise Data Architect.
Position Summary
The Data Architect reports to the Enterprise Data Architect. This individual is an expert in data architecture principles and best practices, data modeling, data integration, data storage solutions, and data security and compliance. The role embodies and promotes the core values of the organization while fostering collaboration across various teams.
This position is responsible for data architecture and making technology selections for data systems and applications within the company's product portfolio. The candidate is expected to contribute to data architecture from project inception through delivery, working closely with fellow Enterprise Architects, Engineering Managers, Product Owners, and Lead Engineers.
The Data Architect contributes to proposals, recommends solutions for approval, and reviews technical designs to ensure they adhere to best data architecture practices and align with the company's technological vision. This role is also tasked with promoting, governing, and documenting data architecture decisions across impacted programs.
The Data Architect contributes significantly to data-related decisions, selections, and strategy at the highest levels.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures specifications of data architecture alignment with organizational goals.
- Contributes to the planning and execution of architectural aspects related to data projects across multiple disciplines.
- Ensures architectural integrity and consistency throughout the entire data architecture.
- Documents and communicate data architecture decisions and strategies effectively.
- Develops, refines, and applies data architecture methods and procedures in accordance with industry standards and best practices.
- Ensures data privacy, quality, and security by adhering to regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, or HIPAA and implementing encryption, data masking, and secure access controls.
- Ensures data architecture decisions and strategies are consistent, formalized, and documented.
- Develops and manages conceptual, logical, and physical data models using tools such as ERD (Entity Relationship Diagram).
- Contributes for estimation activities, and quality of estimates, in collaboration with the product teams.
- Creates and maintains comprehensive system documentation for data architecture design and domain technologies.
- Stays updated with industry trends to conceive, prototype, and recommend architectural approaches for data systems and solutions that meet business needs.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Math, or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience in data architecture, including at least 2 years in a dedicated Data Architect role.
- Strong expertise in enterprise and data architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman).
- Proven ability to design robust, scalable, and secure system architectures that align with business and technology strategies.
- Proficiency in drawing architectural diagrams for complex ecosystems and documenting architectural decisions clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Deep understanding of architectural principles, patterns, and practices across cloud, data, application, and security domains.
- Experience conducting architectural reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure performance, security, and integrity.
- Knowledge of algorithms and data structures for designing efficient data solutions.
- Experience contributing to organization-wide reusable data frameworks, libraries, and services.
- Familiarity with software product technical architecture, including integration and configuration options.
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing solutions across the data stack (ingestion, processing, storage, analytics, and governance).
- Data modeling expertise with conceptual, logical, and physical models; experience with tools like ERD.
- Strong understanding of data warehousing and data lake technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks).
- Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, Couchbase, MongoDB).
- Experience with data integration tools and processes including ETL pipelines (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Kafka, Informatica).
- Proficiency in Python, R, Java, and scripting languages for automation.
- Experience with at least one major cloud platform (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and native cloud services.
- Familiarity with data privacy regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA.
- Strategic mindset with an understanding of how data architecture supports business goals and decision-making.
- Continuous learning mindset; stays current on emerging technologies, tools, and architectural trends.
- Recognized as a technical expert; mentors and collaborates with senior engineers and architects.
