Security Engineering is a dynamic department within our Infrastructure Security business group that defines, develops, and delivers Akamai's Infrastructure Security products. Our team collaborates across Akamai and with external partners to enhance global threat detection capabilities. We operate at the intersection of data, infrastructure, and machine learning to defend the internet at scale.

Drive innovation in Threat Intelligence

As a Software Engineer Senior II Threat Intelligence, you will be part of a high-impact team that drives anomaly detection, threat modeling, and ML-powered detection workflows across Akamai's security infrastructure. You will apply advanced analytics and engineering to identify threats faster, with greater precision.

As a Software Engineer Senior, you will be responsible for:

  • Building and tuning real-time anomaly detection systems using behavioral models, heuristics, and ML
  • Designing and maintaining scalable pipelines to process and analyze high-volume network telemetry
  • Developing high-performance ClickHouse queries and data models to support threat detection and response workflows
  • Contributing services that serve as the backbone of our detection systems
  • Collaborating with Security Analysts and Incident Response teams to operationalize threat intelligence
  • Experimenting with new models and approaches, performing validation and tuning on live data

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience and a bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Be proficient in Python and Golang for backend engineering, with experience writing scalable and reliable microservices
  • Have hands-on experience with ClickHouse or other columnar data stores in real-time analytics use cases
  • Demonstrate knowledge of anomaly detection, time-series modeling, and applying machine learning to security problems
  • Have experience building containerized microservices and managing them with Kubernetes in production/on-prem environments
  • Be familiar with network protocols, common attack patterns, and threat hunting practices
  • Possess a deep understanding of distributed systems, observability, and performance tuning

Compensation

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base salary for this position ranges from $106,600 - $221,400/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP). Akamai provides industry-leading benefits including healthcare, 401K savings plan, company holidays, vacation (in the form of PTO), sick time, family friendly benefits including parental leave and an employee assistance program including a focus on mental and financial wellness; Eligibility requirements apply.
