Specialty Program Group (SPG) is seeking to expand its actuarial capabilities with the addition of a dynamic and collaborative professional. This position will report directly to the Vice President & Actuary and will play a key role in advancing SPG’s analytical and strategic initiatives.
In this role, you will regularly engage with cross-functional teams, including colleagues in Finance, Information Technology, the leadership of SPG’s managing general agencies (MGAs), and senior SPG executives. You will support a broad range of business written through both traditional agent/carrier relationships—often involving fronting carriers and reinsurers—as well as innovative alternative risk transfer solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Completion of traditional actuarial analysis for commercial business prodcts, including Commercial Auto, General Liability, and Workers’ Compensation
- Application of advanced ratemaking and predictive analytics to improve the underwriting and/or rating processes
- Train and mentor staff to implement predictive analytics
- Provide an internal view of the underwriting performance of assigned books of business semi-annually
- Present findings to key stakeholders including SPG management, MGA leadership, carriers, reinsurers, and brokers, as needed
- Ensure impacts of business actiuvities are effectively identified, measured, and monitored
- Perform segmentation analyses, implement analytical tools, and provide requirements for analyzing the experience of various products classification systems, rating plans, and catastrophe exposures
- Aggregate, synthesize, and analyze data from disparate sources drawing actionable conclusions
- Work collaboratively with the finance department during the budgeting process and on ad-hoc analyses, as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required - preferably in related field of study such as actuarial science, math/applied math, statistics/applied statistics, data science
- Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) designation
- Five or more years of experience in a Property & Casualty pricing actuarial role
- Understanding of reinsurance treaties and structures
- Advanced Microsoft Excels and SQL Server skills required
- Knowledge of R and Python
- Pragmatic problem solver who can apply actuarial concepts to multiple lines of business and varied data sources
Disclosure required under applicable state or municipality regulations: The expected salary range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level.
