Works in a variety of settings to build systems that collect, manage, and convert raw data into usable information for data scientists and business analysts to interpret. Their goal is to make data accessible so that organizations can use it to evaluate and optimize their performance. Designs, builds and oversees the deployment and operation of technology architecture, solutions and software to capture, manage, store and utilize structured and unstructured data from internal and external sources. Establishes and builds processes and structures based on business and technical requirements to channel data from multiple inputs, route appropriately and store using any combination of distributed (cloud) structures, local databases, and other applicable storage forms as required.

 

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Data Engineer or Principal Data Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals located onsite in either Redondo Beach, CA or Clearfield, UT.

 

Join our team and build scalable pipelines from the ground up. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining modern, optimized, and high-performance data solutions in support of programs and functions. There is also an opportunity to sharpen data science, AI, visualization, software development, or project management skills. Accomplish 

In this role you will design, build, and maintain scalable ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines using Python and SQL, while developing and optimizing data storage solutions, and ensure data integrity, security and best practices are followed. 

 

The ideal candidate should have experience in Data Engineering or Data Science.

 

This position is on-site, but hybrid work will be considered.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines using Python and/or SQL.
  • Develop and optimize data storage solutions
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and software engineers to integrate and process data efficiently.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and governance best practices are followed.
  • Monitor and improve data processing performance and scalability.
  • Write and maintain tests and documentation for data architecture, workflows, and processes.

Basic Qualifications Data Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field, with 2 years of related engineering experience, OR Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field, with 0 years of related engineering experience
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL
  • Proficiency in SQL for relational databases (MSSQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control (e.g., Git, Docker, etc).
  • The ability to acquire and maintain government Secret clearance or higher, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.

 

Basic Qualifications Principal Data Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field, with 5 years of related engineering experience, OR Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field, with 3 years of related engineering experience.
  • Recent professional experience in data engineering and/or software development.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL
  • Proficiency in SQL for relational databases (MSSQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control (e.g., Git, Docker, etc).
  • The ability to acquire and maintain government Secret clearance or higher, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD secret clear
  • Experience working with customers (internal or external)
  • Understanding of manufacturing and quality data in the aerospace industry
  • Proficiency in Tableau and PowerBI
  • Experience with shop floor execution systems (MES, Solumina, TIPQA, etc.)
  • Experience with Sharepoint online, Powerautomate, Powerapps
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, or Software Engineering
  • Experience with machine learning pipelines and data science workflows.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and tools.
  • Familiarity with SQL Alchemy, Numpy, Pandas
  • Hands-on experience with cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure) for data engineering.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and optimize complex data queries and workflows.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Salary Range: $77,200.00 - $134,200.00Salary Range 2: $95,300.00 - $165,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
