Lead BI Developer

Employment type: Permanent 
Work hours: Monday-Friday, 9am-5.30pm
Location: Remote - Available for occasional meet-ups in our Head Office in Bideford 

What will I be doing?

As our Lead Business Intelligence Developer you will play a key role in fostering a data-driven culture at Travel Chapter, promoting accurate, insightful, and actionable data interpretation to inform strategic decision-making. You will design and develop robust, scalable Power BI data models and deliver high-impact, visually compelling reports. 

You’ll have strong commercial acumen to ensure data is accessible, meaningful and tailored to support teams across the organisation. You will also provide line management to our BI Developers, supporting their development and fostering a collaborative team culture.

As part of your everyday role, you’re likely to be involved in the following:

• Writing complex SQL logic and adhering to coding standards for efficiency
• Assisting with design and development of scalable Power BI data models
• Implementing best practices in data modelling
• Establishing and managing relationships between tables within Power BI
• Defining hierarchies for drill-down analysis and enhanced user experience
• Utilising DAX functions for analytics
• Implementing version control for data models
• Ensuring compliance with data governance policies
• Creating visually impactful reports to influence business decisions
• Identifying optimisation techniques for enhancing Power BI performance
• Integrating Power BI with other systems to enhance BI capabilities
• Following Jira and GitLab processes and managing team workload
• Conducting peer reviews to maintain data accuracy and adherence to standards
• Collaborating with stakeholders to translate requirements into visualisations
• Providing guidance on data interpretation for strategic decisions
• Contributing to documentation and conducting internal training sessions
• Proactively identifying and communicating opportunities for process improvement
• Driving continued evolution and improvement within the BI function

What are we looking for?

Ideally, we’re looking for: 

• Highly experienced in Power BI design, dashboards, apps in Power BI Service
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric
• Excellent SQL, Power Query and DAX skills, combining complex data sets from multiple sources
• Experienced in advanced Power BI data model concepts such as composite models and incremental refresh
• Experience with mentoring and developing BI team members
• Strong commercial understanding of translating business needs into visual
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to balance multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outputs
• Experience in Data Engineering and data warehouse structures
