Fulltime, 40 hours/week
Starting August 01, 2025, and limited until December 31, 2027   You have decided to pursue an academic career and want to conduct research, teach, and be an active member of the scientific community in your field? This position is the next step in your career in research. This position is a shared post-doc position related to two third-party funded projects: VALPOP (an EU Horizon project focusing on populist networks) and eXplore Big Data (a cross-university collaboration between WU and the Technical University of Vienna).

What to expect

• Independent research work: You will be expected to work in the field of International Business and Data Science with a specific focus on populism, public policy and data analytics. You will be independently gathering data, working with cooperation partners and companies to conduct interdisciplinary research with practical relevance, and publishing your findings in top journals
• Teaching: The position does not include teaching obligations. However, there is the possibility to teach additional courses (additional remuneration)
• Student support: You will act as a supervisor for bachelor’s theses and as a co-supervisor for master’s theses. As part of the eXplore Big Data project, you will be involved in student projects and the co-co-supervision of master theses with TU Vienna. 
• Organizational and administrative support: You will help in administering the related third-party projects (VALPOP, eXplore Big Data) and acquiring further third-party funding
• Learning from top researchers: You will be working together with renowned researchers in your field and learning from them
• Teamwork: At the institute, you’ll be working to advance research in your field together with an experienced team
• Building up a professional network: You will be using the post-doc phase to establish yourself as a researcher and expand your own professional network

What you have to offer

• A PhD degree: You have a completed (by the time of employment) doctoral degree with excellent grades focusing on International Business, Business Science and/or Data Science. Academic awards for PhD work are a plus
• First academic papers: You have strong skills in gathering quantitative data and applying advanced data science techniques. You have academic papers (focusing on populism, public policy and/or data science) under review or R&R stage in leading business outlets. Papers published are a plus
• Language skills: You speak excellent English and have at least a basic knowledge of German
• Experience with supervising student theses: Experience with co-supervising bachelor’s and master’s theses is a must
• Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You have experience in using multimedia teaching and learning formats or are at least willing to learn
• IT skills: You are familiar with MS Office and R. An ability to work with major firm-level databases and company documents is a key requirement for this role. Experience with Python or other data science tools is a plus.
• Third-party relations: You have experience in working and building relationships with other academic or non-academic institutions. Having participated in or contributed to third-party funded projects is a plus
• Working style: You work independently, show initiative, and have good self-organization skills

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €4,932.90 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on equivalent prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
