How you will make an impact:
Looking for an enthusiastic and motivated manager for our growing Data Science Team. We have a constantly growing, unique and rich healthcare dataset and have big plans to leverage this for the betterment of our patients. Adopting a largely greenfield infrastructure & barebones group; build, mold & grow them into your ideal team. This is a very novel opportunity to lead the development of innovative solutions with massive impact on patients’ daily lives.
This is a people management role with the Data Science Manager tasked with building, leading and daily management of the Data Science team. This will encompass all aspects to ensure the success of the team in building new algorithms and models for internal use or deployed as product features for clinicians or patients. The manager will give direction, guidance and structure to the team while being at the center of hypothesis testing and experimentation. You will be empowered to deliver innovative, insightful & impactful features and projects. Additional Roles/Responsibilities:
Hire, build and grow the data science team. Multiple expansion requisitions approved for FY’25
Manage, mentor and guide team members to excel at their roles. Build upon your own deep technical strengths to impart insight and guidance to the team. Contribute and constructively challenge technical proposals & requests.
Handle team career development and annual reviews.
Own the Data Science roadmap & project backlog. Use your project management skills to steer, manage and prioritize the Data Science Teams workload & projects.
Aid distillation of complex technical approaches and progress into digestible presentations and updates to management & senior leadership.
Liaise with immediate teams (Data Engineering, Data Analytics) and external groups to understand needs and requests while progressing your team's needs.
Demonstrate good data governance practices and approaches equivalent to the risks and needs of the team.
Ensure the highest levels of confidentiality and sensitivity for dealing with Patient Health Information [PHI]
What you'll need (Required):
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Biostatistics or Scientific field including either industry or industry/education -OR- Master's Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Biostatistics or Scientific field including either industry or industry/education -OR- Ph.D. or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Biostatistics or Scientific field including either industry or industry/education
Experience in technical leadership or management role
Previous hands-on knowledge of mathematical principals, Statistics, Data Analytics and Data Science principles and their use with building models and insights
What else we look for (Preferred):
Experience as a Data Scientist, Statistician or other technical data related role strongly preferred
Expert understanding of related aspects of machine learning, data science and artificial intelligence processes and/or systems
Hands-on experience with working and analyzing clinical or patient data (an advantage)
Demonstrated ability to manage one or more teams and provide coaching and feedback, including responsibility for all employee actions including hire/fire authority and partnering with HR on all aspects of employee relations (Experience leading Data Science, Data Analytics or Software Management teams is strongly preferred).
Ability to develop and integrate metrics into the projects and operations that clearly demonstrate the value of machine learning, data science and artificial intelligence to the business
Strict attention to detail
Ability to interact professionally with all organizational levels
Ability to work and excel within a fast paced, dynamic, and constantly changing work environment
Ability to frequently interacts with internal and external management and senior-level stakeholders concerning projects, operational decisions, scheduling requirements, and/or contractual clarifications
Ability to provide leadership and direction to cross-functional teams to successfully implement global enterprise systems and related solutions
Adhere to all company rules and requirements (e.g., pandemic protocols, Environmental Health & Safety rules) and take adequate control measures in preventing injuries to themselves and others as well as to the protection of environment and prevention of pollution under their span of influence/control

For Illinois (IL), the base pay range for this position is $118,000 to $167,000 (highly experienced). The pay for the successful candidate will depend on various factors (e.g., qualifications, education, prior experience).
