You’ll be part of the High Value and International Payments Crew, enabling high value and cross-border payment capabilities across CBA's payments ecosystem. We deliver high value and international payment options that are faster, safer, more affordable, and more transparent—meeting the changing needs of our customers through a seamless digital experience, enhanced by smarter automation, AI, and intelligent data processing.

Do work that matters:

As a Principal Engineer, you’ll uplift our engineering, automation, and DevSecOps journey, spearheading the adoption of DevSecOps and MLOps practices while driving a cultural shift towards security-first and AI-enabled development. You’ll help shape the future of our digital platform, focusing on designing, developing, and deploying innovative technology solutions—ranging from AI-powered customer service, automated decisioning, and generative AI, to scalable and resilient cloud-native services.You’ll use your leadership skills to mentor engineers, and your deep expertise to architect and implement complex AI solutions.

You’ll ensure our platforms leverage industry-leading coding languages that are scalable, resilient, and efficient. With a strong risk mindset, you’ll ensure appropriate security and responsible-AI controls are implemented, while making a significant impact by sharing your technical expertise and guidance throughout the team.

We’re interested in hearing from people who:

• Drive automation practices and the DevSecOps journey for the crew, while exploring AI-driven automation using state-of-the-art tools and platforms such as AIOps and AI Agents.

• Provide overall engineering leadership for the platform, spanning software, systems, quality, AI/ML integrations, and site reliability.

• Design technology solutions to meet the highest software engineering & architecture standards for quality, security, performance, availability and maintainability.

• Design and implement innovative technical solutions to complex problems, including onboarding and migrating to new tooling such as Generative AI services (AWS Bedrock, Knowledge Bases), RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), Data Augmentation, Vector Database, and LLM (Large Language Model) integrations, as well as removing obsolete systems and code.

• Are well versed with solution architecture, technology blueprints, AI/ML engineering roadmaps, and can translate the project vision—including AI deployment—into actionable plans.

• Encourage risk-taking and constructively challenge the status quo while influencing stakeholders and building diverse, inclusive, and AI-forward, self-governed teams.

Tech Skills:

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these will set you up for success in this team:

• Expertise with CI/CD and DevSecOps best practices, including for AI/ML workloads, AIOps and MLOps.

• Experience building secure, scalable, and highly available cloud-native applications, leveraging platforms such as AWS (including AWS Bedrock, Sagemaker, Lambda, etc.), and integrating generative AI/LLM solutions.

• Experience with public APIs that support mission-critical and AI-enriched applications.

• Practical exposure to Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), managing Knowledge Bases and Embeddings, and working with Large Language Models (LLM).

• Proficient in modern programming languages such as Python, TypeScript, and/or C#, especially within AI/ML and cloud settings.

• Ability to contribute to strategy, AI solution architecture, and translate these into pragmatic engineering design decisions.

• Experience working with Payments or related domains, including responsible AI/data compliance, is highly regarded.

• Thorough understanding of large-scale distributed systems, solution design, AI-powered architectures, and foundational principles for building robust, intelligent services.
