Description
The Center for AIDS Research, Clinical Research Core is seeking a Data Analyst to manage the CFAR HIV Registry, perform research study data requests and to contribute to several center projects requiring digital organization, maintenance, and analysis of large datasets. The ideal candidate will have expertise in at least one statistical software language, as well as experience conducting statistical analyses and managing data (e.g., cleaning and harmonizing datasets). This work will contribute to multiple peer-reviewed publications and grant applications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Creates and maintains a data dictionary and meta data.
- Supports efforts to ensure that data standards are developed and maintained.
- Ensures that the uses of data through reports and queries are accurate.
- Supports business and system re-engineering and architecture development to define future data needs.
- Serves as an organizational consultant on matters relating to databases by providing expertise to assist users in meeting their needs.
- Performs other related duties as required.

- Configures and maintains scheduled tasks to move data between servers.
- Supports efforts to ensure that data standards are developed and maintained.
- Ensures that the uses of data through reports and queries are accurate.
- Supports business and system re-engineering and architecture development to define future data needs.
- Designing and developing software, databases, and interfaces for analyzing and manipulating research data and analyzing and interpreting results of experiments.
- Supports the acquisition, management and analysis of data from multiple sites or sources.
- Supports the configuration and management of technology solutions supporting the receipt, transformation, validation and storage of data.
- Ensures that the uses of data through reports and queries are appropriate.
- Serves as a department consultant on matters relating to databases by providing expertise to assist users in meeting their needs.
- Performs basic programing using Perl/Python or Java, statistical programming, web-development, and database query through SQL.
- Collaboration with researchers to develop high throughput data processing and analysis capability and recommend potential alternative approaches to improve the quality of results.
- Directs and guides database searches and the computational analysis of resulting data.
- Provides direct technical customer support through helping to guide, implement and maintain further improvements to bioinformatics software, databases and interfaces.
- Develops automated quality control procedures to assess quality of data and provides reports to data owners.
- Perform monthly quality checks to assess changes in data volume
- Works effectively within a group setting in areas of design of data collection instruments, database management, analysis of data, and creation of reports and dashboards.
- Develops and performs appropriate analyses.
- Provides explanations of analysis methods, assumptions made, and assists in interpretation of results and implications therein.
- Documents methods and results through development and maintenance of standard documentation artifacts including data dictionaries, standard operating procedures and analysis methodology descriptions.
- Works with onsite or field-based counterparts to coordinate consistent implementation of data quality control measures and provision of access to the central data repositories.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor's degree and one year of experience in data analysis, statistics, or a related field, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A master’s degree in computer science, quantitative science, or related field (e.g., epidemiology, economics, biostatistics, geography, statistics, etc.) or a bachelor’s degree in computer science, quantitative science and at least five years of full-time analytic experience.
- Demonstrated ability to use Sequel and Python.
- Demonstrated ability to use relational database management systems such as, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL.
- Demonstrated ability to use statistical software to conduct analyses in R, Stata, or SAS.
- Experience cleaning, harmonizing, and managing datasets.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize assignments so that project deliverables are completed on time.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a desire to learn new skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and basic medical terminology.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
