Salary Range: $243,750-$406,250
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $243,750-$406,250 plus bonus eligibility and other elements of our total rewards package. The range represents the amount bnsf | tech reasonably expects to pay for the position based on the level, scope, and responsibilities of the role. Individual compensation and level of position offered is determined by the hiring location and additional factors including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. In addition to base pay, BNSF offers a comprehensive benefits package.

As a Sr Staff Data Engineer, you will:
- Spearhead the strategic design and implementation of cutting-edge data streaming solutions to process real-time data efficiently and accurately, driving innovation in data processing capabilities.
- Architect and govern the maintenance of resilient data pipelines that facilitate seamless data flow across systems, ensuring the utmost data integrity, reliability, and scalability.
- Strategically design and oversee the management of datamarts to cater to advanced business intelligence and analytics needs, providing insights to key stakeholders.
- Develop and establish certified datasets to uphold stringent data quality standards, ensuring data accuracy and consistency for data-driven decision-making across the organization.
- Foster collaboration with diverse cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts and stakeholders to proactively gather requirements and deliver data solutions that align with strategic business objectives.
- Innovate data workflows and proactively troubleshoot challenges to maintain peak performance and scalability of data infrastructure, continuously enhancing operational efficiency.
- Champion data security measures and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations to safeguard sensitive information and mitigate risks effectively.
- Stay at the forefront of cutting-edge trends and advancements in data engineering, data science, and machine learning, integrating industry best practices into data solutions to drive continual improvement.
- Lead the end-to-end implementation of data engineering solutions into production systems, overseeing the comprehensive solution design, development, testing, and monitoring processes to elevate operational excellence and deliver substantial business value.
- Mentor, coach and enable other Data Engineers to develop a strong data engineering team.
Basic Qualifications:
- I am CURRENTLY authorized to work in the US.
- MS degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field; Ph.D is a plus
- 12+ years of experience in building enterprise data engineering solutions
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, Java
- Experience in DevSecOps standards and tools like Jenkins, GitHub
- Expertise in data engineering, with a focus on data streaming, data pipelines, data orchestration tools, datamart creation, and certified datasets
- Expertise with data streaming technologies (e.g., Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, Apache Flink)
- Strong knowledge of database management systems (e.g., SQL, NoSQL) and modern lakehouse technologies (eg. Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, Apache Trino)
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Kubernetes, specifically Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
- Proficiency in using Jupyter for collaborative data analysis
- Deep experience with open-source technologies and tools
- Strong knowledge of ETL processes and tools (e.g., SQL)
- Experience with multiple cloud platforms
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Intellectual curiosity and ability to thrive in a team environment that is constantly changing
- Demonstrated ability to learn new technical concepts and to adapt to new technologies quickly
- Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, professional oral or written manner, to be understood by technical and non-technical colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in Rail, Shipping, Airline, Logistics, Warehousing, Supply Chain, or other Transportation industries or experience in a High-Tech industry
- Experience working in an Agile environment (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe)
- Have knowledge of geospatial data transformation and spatial libraries
- Expertise with MLOps tools like MLflow, Kubeflow, or similar.
- Expertise in Model Deployment, Model Automation, Model Monitoring, Model Optimization & Compliance
