Customer Data Science Backend Developer

THE OPPORTUNITY

Dillard’s is seeking a backend developer with an interest in data analysis and machine learning to join our team.  For this role, you will use Python, Kornshell, JavaScript, and SQL for developing and maintaining applications.  To be successful, you should be a life-long learner who enjoys acquiring knowledge of new technologies and striving for continuous improvement. 

THE TEAM

This role is on the Customer Data Science team, which uses predictive insights to analyze customer behavior, current business trends, problems, and strategies to help provide actionable insights for the company. As a member of this team, you will work with Python and SQL to develop the applications and framework needed to develop predictive models and for our analytics-driven email programs.  You will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact while also furthering your skills and knowledge by utilizing a diverse set of tools.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Develop new code to integrate machine learning models into processes that adhere to coding best practices
• Test and debug currently deployed code
• Support deployment of smart emails weekly; develop new solutions to support email marketing automation and scalability for personalization
• Complete ad hoc analysis projects to support marketing and merchant brand analysis
• Develop predictive models based on customer behavior
• Work with cross-functional teams, such as Data Science, Data Warehouse, BI, Marketing

THE MUST-HAVES

• Coding experience (Python)
• Strong SQL skills, with a desire to become a SQL expert
• Experience with large datasets and data processing
• Strong self-motivation to learn new technologies
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
• Ability to adapt to change

THE NICE-TO-HAVES

• Modeling experience
• Teradata experience
• Experience with machine learning algorithms or statistical modeling
• JavaScript

WITHIN 1 MONTH, YOU’LL

• Develop a basic understanding of querying data in EDW.  
• Develop a basic understanding of the customer data mart.  
• Develop a basic understanding of our software stack.
• Develop a basic understanding of our Python scripts and how to troubleshoot them.

WITHIN 2 MONTHS, YOU’LL

• Be able to complete a customer analysis independently.  
• Develop a basic support of weekly smart emails. 
• Contribute ideas for new models/projects.

WITHIN 3 MONTHS, YOU’LL

• Be able to work independently in the data warehouse and AI environment.  
• Be able to independently research, optimize, and maintain code.
