The Secure Information Exchange (SIX), part of the Data Exchange Solutions unit, provides a range of file transfer solutions that enable efficient and secure data exchange between Swiss Re and third parties. SIX builds, manages, and owns scalable end-to-end solutions, including the Managed File Transfer (MFT) platform, APIs, and bespoke web applications, all serving the company's diverse and evolving needs.
To extend the existing team, we are seeking an energetic, tech-savvy DevOps & Backend Engineer who is customer-focused and value-driven and will contribute to the continuous delivery and maintenance of our platforms. You will work closely with peers, internal experts, and business clients to support, organize, and manage various engineering and development activities within the team.
About the TeamThe Secure Information Exchange (SIX) team comprises experts and enthusiasts committed to developing impactful file transfer solutions for our clients. This team is responsible for managing, developing, maintaining, supporting, and advancing business-critical file transfer solutions, including the MFT platform, custom applications, and APIs, to provide best service while ensuring data security and integrity.
Key Tasks- Provide level 3 support for MFT platform, applications and file transfer solutions, ensuring stability, performance, and timely resolution of complex issues.
- Support and maintain hybrid infrastructure (On-premises and Azure).
- Address vulnerabilities, ensure encryption in transit and at rest, and maintain compliance with internal and industry standards.
- Manage secure integration points (service endpoints, firewalls, IP restrictions, etc.).
- Ensure all solutions meet high security standards (OWASP, HTTPS, encryption, secret management).
- Participate in internal/external penetration tests and audits.
- Collaborate with platform experts, operators and clients to automate common tasks and improve self-service capabilities. Always seek ways to automate and improve efficiency.
- Coordinate and perform GoAnywhere MFT platform upgrades, migration activities, and security related changes.
- Develop and maintain MFT API using Python (FastAPI). Conduct testing and compatibility validation.
- Ensure secure, structured and efficient coding practices and participate in code review.
- Build and manage well organized CI/CD pipelines (YAML-based).
- Extract and analyze data from Oracle/PostgreSQL databases.
- Design, deliver and maintain KPI metrics and dashboards to track platform usage (preferably in Palantir).
- Maintain high-quality documentation.
About You
- 10+ years of professional experience, ideally with a background in insurance or financial industry.
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in computer/information science (or equivalent).
- 3+ years proven experience in application architecture design and cloud concepts.
- Pro-active and self-starting mindset with effective communication and collaboration skills.
Must-Have Skills
- Experience in platform administration, operations and troubleshooting.
- Experience in secure infrastructure and software designs, familiarity with common vulnerabilities, involvement in security reviews/hardening and a good security mindset.
- Solid understanding of Windows Server and Linux (shell, services).
- Hands-on experience with Azure (Storage, Networking, App Services, Key Vault, Messaging, etc.).
- Proficient in Python; RESTful service design (.NET/NextJS knowledge is a plus).
Additional Desirable Skills
- Working knowledge of secure file transfer protocols such as SFTP, HTTPS.
- Knowledge of GoAnywhere MFT or other file transfer solutions is a strong advantage.
- Strong experience with CI/CD principles, YAML pipelines (Azure DevOps preferred).
- Experience in containerization and runtime orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Proficient in PL/SQL, with hands-on experience in Oracle and PostgreSQL.
- Comfortable designing KPIs and building reports/dashboards (preferably in Palantir).
- Well versed with observability tools (Azure Monitor, ELK, Grafana).
