The Portfolio Management Associate works primarily with the Director of International Research, who leads the team that manages the International Stock Fund. The Fund is the second largest international equity fund in the U.S. and has twice been named Morningstar’s International Stock Fund Manager of the Year. The associate plays an important role in supporting portfolio construction decisions and other critical business processes, including performance analysis and client communications. By utilizing both fundamental and data analysis, the associate assists the Director of International Research in comparing portfolio tradeoffs and conducting topical research. As a firm that employs a team decision-making process, the associate interacts with other members of the portfolio management team and attends weekly portfolio management meetings. The position also involves creating presentation materials and working closely with our client service team to support client communication efforts.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting Director of International Research on a variety of investment research and client-related projects
- Creating research summaries on individual companies and/or broader topics to enhance decision-making
- Performing fundamental and quantitative analyses to compare companies in portfolio
- Conducting portfolio attribution analysis to explain portfolio and market performance
- Utilizing databases and applications to examine portfolio holdings and screen for new ideas
- Organizing, cleaning, and interpreting fund level data for internal and external meetings
- Assisting in the creation and updating of internal and external communication materials, especially during quarter end
- Attending weekly portfolio management meetings and writing meeting minutes
This is a two-to-four-year position, after which most individuals enroll in business school. Associates have gone on to attend business schools including Stanford, Harvard, Wharton, UChicago and Columbia.
Qualifications:
Dodge & Cox targets candidates with high levels of academic and professional achievement and leadership ability.
- 1-2 years of experience at an investment management firm, hedge fund, investment bank or management consulting firm, or an undergraduate experience that demonstrates strong work ethic, analytical skills, and exceptional potential
- An excellent academic record with coursework in Finance, Economics, Accounting, and Statistics. Coursework in data science a plus.
- Demonstrated interest in value investing, financial markets, and investment management
- Relentless attention to detail
- Ability to summarize information and craft a compelling case
- Comfortable proactively soliciting input and feedback from the team
- Initiative and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and computer skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, Bloomberg, and FactSet. Familiarity with Python and/or Tableau a plus.
Requirements
Dodge & Cox has a 4:1 hybrid work model, and all Dodge & Cox employees are required to be in their assigned office as noted in the job posting Monday - Thursday each week, with the option to work remotely on Friday.
The salary range for this position is $155k - $180k.
The listed pay scale denotes only the pay range of the base salary and does not include discretionary bonus compensation, which may make up an important portion of the total remuneration.
