Affinity Water are looking for an Associate Data Scientist to join our Data Strategy & Operations team. In this key role you will be supporting the data science team in extracting valuable insights from data to help inform business decisions. 

The role will include a variety of tasks and responsibilities aimed at developing the skills of the postholder while also contributing to the organisation's data-driven goals. The postholder will promote the collaboration between research institutions and Affinity Water to deliver innovation in the Data Science Centre of Excellence.

This role is particularly well-suited for recent graduates or individuals early in their data science careers who are passionate about applying their learning in a real-world business setting. We value curiosity, problem-solving, and a proactive mindset.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Collect, clean, and pre-process structured and unstructured data for analysis. 
  • Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify trends and patterns. 
  • Develop and implement statistical models and machine learning algorithms.
  • Assist in deploying models into production and monitoring their performance. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define business problems and translate them into analytical tasks. 
  • Design and develop compelling data visualisations to communicate insights clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Write well-documented and efficient Python or SQL code for data analysis.

Requirements  

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics,
    Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Python or R, with experience in data manipulation libraries like Pandas and NumPy.
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques and frameworks 
  • Experience with SQL for data extraction and manipulation.
  • Experience in data science, analytics, or a related field. (including academic projects or internships)
  • Willingness to explore new data science techniques and technologies. 
  • Ability to explain complex data insights in simple, clear terms. 
  • Working well with cross-functional teams, including engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders.
