Purpose of Job

 


The primary purpose of this role is to support the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Compliance team by exploring advanced data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence techniques. The Data Scientist will focus on developing and optimizing AI/ML models for a variety of tasks related to AML and compliance. Examples of tasks would include feature engineering for model development, developing supervised and unsupervised models, visualizing data, and creating new analytics.

 

 

Key Job Accountabilities


• Explore data and engineer features for model development
• Staying up-to-date on new topics in AI and machine learning
• Creating supervised and unsupervised models in python and/or scala
• Analyzing model outputs with a critical view to model purpose and stakeholder feedback
• Provide technical expertise and support in the investigation and resolution of AML and compliance-related issues, emphasizing AI model outputs.
• Work collaboratively with a talented team of data scientists
• Communicate ideas and insights to peers, managers, and stakeholders
• Work closely with stakeholders to understand model objectives and seek out opportunity for improving processes.

 

 

Skills, Experiences and Functional Competencies

 


• Strong understanding of advanced modelling techniques and underlying mathematical fundamentals is required
• Strong python with familiarity in core data science libraries such as pandas, numpy, sk-learn, pytorch or tensorflow is required
• Version control familiarity is required
• Linux and HDFS experience are strong assets
• Spark and scala experience are strong assets
• Knowledge of Money Laundering, Trading, and Crime are strong assets
• Spanish as a language is an asset

 

Education and Other Requirements


• Master's or PhD degree in a STEM field, with experience on modelling projects and code development

 

OR


• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, with experience on modelling projects and code development
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in data science or a related field, preferably
within the financial services industry.
