This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Pyrmont, Sydney. There are approximately 290 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 350 staff by end of 2025. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Denmark, Germany and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.


About the role

The company is seeking a Graduate Field Data Engineer to join the team in Sydney. The role will be focused on delivering high quality datasets to support the machine learning lifecycle for Droneshield’s proprietary drone detection algorithms. The successful candidate will be exposed to cutting edge embedded data capture tooling, the machine learning lifecycle, radio frequency mechanics, data processing techniques and the most sophisticated drone platforms in the world.


Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations 

  • This is a multi-disciplinary role, working with the RFAI, Data Engineering and Field Test Engineering teams to create high quality datasets for state-of-the-art AI model training and algorithm development.
  • Record radio-frequency data in anechoic chambers and a variety of environments. This role offers the opportunity to regularly travel to field sites. Expect to travel within Greater Sydney at least once per week.
  • Research and analyse RF signatures emitted by state-of-the-art drones. The role includes hand-on soldering and configuration of RF emitters.
  • Process and organise raw data in the Linux terminal.
  • Improve current data capture workflow with process and technology improvements.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills 

  • BS degree in an Engineering discipline especially Aerospace, Mechanical, Mechatronic or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience operating a Linux terminal.
  • Bonus: Exposure to the machine learning lifecycle and/or computer networking.
  • Bonus: You’re a drone enthusiast and keep up with the latest industry trends.
