Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

$210,500.00 - $339,500.00

As a member of Enterprise Architecture, you’ll be joining a strategic and collaborative team that is passionate about transforming our business and technology capabilities and paving the way for best-in-class solutions.

As a direct report to the VP, Enterprise Architecture, you will collaborate directly with the Chief AI Officer and other senior Technology and Business leaders. You will apply your knowledge of modern technology to influence and innovate solutions that impact the business. In this role we will look to you to:

-Define the Vision: Develop and articulate the north star architecture vision for Advanced AI initiatives at Travelers, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic goals.

-Strategic Decision-Making: Leverage your expertise to guide critical AI decisions, establishing and maintaining AI standards across the organization.

-Platform Guidance: Provide expert guidance on the selection a nd use of enterprise-grade AI/ML platforms, ensuring scalability and robustness.

-Technology Approval: Evaluate and approve technology solutions for AI, ensuring they meet organizational needs and industry best practices.

-Methodology Leadership: Drive the development and implementation of standards in fine-tuning, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Large Language Model (LLM) approaches, prompt engineering, and multi-agent collaboration and orchestration frameworks.

-Security and Integrity: Ensure the security of AI systems, focusing on data privacy, model integrity, and observability to maintain trust and reliability.

-Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Risk, Compliance, and Legal teams to ensure AI solutions adhere to enterprise standards, regulatory requirements, and responsible AI principles.

  • What Will You Do?

    • Technology Architecture Leadership: Assume full organizational responsibility for Technology Architecture, supporting the Enterprise AI & Emerging Tech team. Optimize talent strategy to ensure a balanced mix of resources, attracting and recruiting top talent. 

    • Thought Leadership: Exhibit strong thought leadership in advocating for modern architecture principles and technology modernization. 

    • Industry Analysis: Identify opportunities to leverage technology advancements by analyzing key industry and technology trends to assess their potential impact on the enterprise. 

    • Strategic Collaboration: Engage with senior leadership in Technology and Business to establish architecture priorities and directions that enable business imperatives. Build strong partnerships with colleagues to ensure alignment and synergy. 

    • Technology Transformation: Drive continuous technology transformation efforts to minimize technical debt and enhance system efficiency. 

    • Proof of Concept Leadership: Define and lead technology proof of concepts to validate the feasibility of new technology architecture solutions. 

    • Target State Definition: Develop and articulate target state technology architecture and roadmaps, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals. 

    • Initiative Alignment: Ensure initiatives are aligned with the target state architecture to support strategic objectives. 

    • Communication Strategy: Prepare and deliver comprehensive communications to convey architectural direction and its alignment with enterprise strategy. 

    • Efficiency Improvement: Continuously improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the architecture function. 

    • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the organization. 

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

    • Educational and Professional Background: 

    • Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field or equivalent experience. 

    • 15+ years of experience in technology architecture. 

    • Extensive technology experience in Property & Casualty insurance. 

    • Leadership and Mentorship: 

    • Proven track record of influencing C-level leadership. 

    • Experience providing mentorship to senior architecture leaders. 

    • Organizational and transformational leadership experience in an agile operating model. 

    • Inspirational leader who is passionate about technology transformations. 

    • Strong grasp of value creation and business capability models. 

    • Innovative with a continuous improvement mindset. 

    • Demonstrated ability to drive decisions. 

    • Experience partnering with risk, compliance, and legal teams. 

    • Strategic and Technical Expertise and Experience: 

    • Strong engineering background with hands-on experience in the last 3-5 years. 

    • Current experience with Large Language Models, agentic frameworks, ML Ops, and traditional AI and ML. 

    • Proven history of delivering large programs in the AI space, including integration of operational systems, APIs, and batch/streaming pipelines

    • Deep understanding of AI system security, including data privacy, model integrity, and observability. 

    • Proficient in cloud technologies and enterprise-grade AI/ML platforms (e.g., AWS Sagemaker, Bedrock, Anthropic, OpenAI, Azure ML, Databricks). 

    • Expertise in LLMs, including fine-tuning, RAG, prompt engineering, multi-agent collaboration, orchestration frameworks, and alignment techniques. Demonstrated experience leading the development of strategic technology direction and architecture vision for a large organization. 

    • Developed technology target states and roadmaps aligned with short- and long-term business goals. 

    • Expert-level software engineering awareness. 

    • Good understanding of security, access, and identity profiles. 

    • Experienced with large-scale technology platforms, including build vs. buy evaluations. 

What is a Must Have?

    • 15 years of experience in enterprise, application, and/or information architecture within a line of business or enterprise area.

    • Four years of previous management experience.
