As the Manager of Lending Risk Strategy, reporting to the Director of Risk Strategy, you’ll work on developing full-spectrum (from underserved communities to homeowners) profitability-optimising origination models, strategies and policies that balance analytics, strategy and execution while enabling the hopes and dreams of Canadians.
Oh, and yes, being fun matters. A lot.
What you'll do:
- Build, maintain, and continuously improve full-spectrum profitability-optimising consumer credit strategies, policies, and tests covering a wide range of channels, products, and stakeholders
- Segment markets into prospective borrowers and design and execute statistical algorithms that optimise profitability by maximizing the acquisition of high-margin booked loans while minimizing losses through channels where intermediaries can have a significant impact on the presentation of offers, structure of pricing and underwriting standards
- Develop and execute backtesting, monitoring, and reporting, in a timely manner - working collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders as required - to ensure that strategies are effective and high-performing
- Develop risk policies that are compliant with the organisation’s risk appetite and review approve / decline requests outside of established guidelines
- Conduct regular loan quality audits, and recommend changes to policies and procedures based on identified process gaps while ensuring corrective action is taken
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of team efficiency and effectiveness by identifying high quality / well-managed data sources and opportunities for the team to apply automation to key processes, reports and documentation
- Dig deep into trends, anomalies and analytic findings to link them to actual real-world events, customer attitudes and behaviours to draw meaningful conclusions and insights that can improve ongoing business outcomes
- Work with cross-functional partners to understand and incorporate their ideas and objectives into risk strategies

Requirements
- University degree in a quantitative or technical field such as Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Applied Sciences, or Finance.
- 3+ years of experience in strategy, analytics, data science, risk management, or finance with a significant focus on quantitative and qualitative strategy, predictive modeling, and/or risk or business analytics
- 3+ years of applied experience in building quantitative and qualitative strategic plans, advanced models and policies
- 3+ years of experience creating senior management ready communications and presentations with Excel, PowerPoint & Word.
- Advanced skills in data manipulation and statistical / machine learning / AI modeling, with proficiency in Python, SQL, Knowledgeseeker, and/or SAS
- Experience conducting complex indirect lending / consumer credit risk and/or fruad strategy & analytics at a financial institution, a strong asset.
- Strong strategic thinking, judgment, communication (verbal, visual, and written), with advanced problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Legitimately curious and passionate about finding the “right answer,” with a detail-oriented mindset and a “healthy sense of paranoia” about quality.
- Highly organized and driven, with the ability to manage competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
