Data Scientist II, Product Analytics

The Traveler Business Team builds and drives growth for our global consumer businesses—Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo. This division creates compelling and differentiated traveler value for each brand by setting the strategic vision, operating strategy, and plan. Responsibilities include investment allocation and prioritization, P&L accountability, and leading cross-functional teams across Expedia Group, who are all held accountable to a single scorecard. 

The Performance Insights and Measurement Strategy team leads product performance related strategic analytics and customer experience advanced insight, ensuring that top level understanding of performance and the resulting decisions are being made are off the back of sound data and analytics principles. This results in simplification, efficiency improvement, consistency and clear accountability on product performance measurement.

As a data scientist II in the team, you will work closely with our Brands and Product teams on our efforts to understand performance of our products. Examples include investigating weekly performance trends alongside automating our capabilities for understanding and detecting changes in core metrics.

In this role, you will: 

  • Carrying out weekly analytics of core performance metrics with a focus on understanding the drivers of conversion and experience

  • Identifying opportunities to leverage advanced analytics methods to develop a deeper understanding of performance for example through increased segmentation of metrics

  • Understanding the interaction of key metrics and their relationship with strategic and performance goals

  • Exploratory analysis to identify friction across the funnel impacting metrics, and quantify the business impact of this

  • Working with the wider product analytics team at Expedia Group to get a deeper understanding of our performance

Experience and Qualifications: 

  • Excellent logical thinking, a very strong background (Bachelor’s/Master’s degree) in a quantitative field such as mathematics, physics, engineering, operations research, data science or similar and 2 years of experience in industry or equivalent.

  • Experience creating and analysing drivers of performance metrics.

  • Demonstrated ability to work through complex business problems and implement suitable solutions.

  • Creative and analytical in thinking with a love for data, to both disagree with and convince senior partners backed by data.

  • Experience in web analytics using tools such as Adobe Analytics or Google Analytics.

  • Experience with large datasets and proficient in SQL and another programming language (e.g. R, Python).
