Your role at BRE
This role offers exciting opportunities for personal growth in data analysis techniques, problem solving, and expanding your knowledge of housing and energy policies, all while engaging with customers.
Depending on the project and team needs, you'll get to work on a variety of activities, including:
- Analysing data from national housing surveys, particularly the English Housing Survey (EHS), which is England’s largest and most detailed survey of housing and residents.
- Performing detailed analyses of other data sources to help build and validate our models.
- Writing clear, accessible research reports and sharing our findings with clients.
- Exploring innovative ways to use data and applying data science techniques to generate insights for our government and private sector partners.
- Using new and emerging software and technologies to process the data we gather.
- Conducting research and creating numerical models on trends related to energy efficiency, fuel poverty, housing conditions, and carbon emissions.
- Developing indicators and methods to spot trends in housing and other data sets.
- Interpreting and validating results to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Your Profile
Essential
- Numerical and Analytical Skills: You have excellent numeracy and the ability to analyse complex data sets to identify trends and insights.
- Data Analysis Experience: You are proficient in using spreadsheets, statistical software, and/or programming for data analysis and reporting.
- Attention to Detail: You ensure accuracy and thoroughness in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Communication Skills: You possess strong written and verbal communication skills to present findings clearly to various audiences.
- IT Literacy: You have strong IT literacy or a demonstrable ability to develop these skills.
- Drive and Determination: You can work under pressure in a commercial research team and are willing to learn new skills.
- Team Collaboration: You are enthusiastic and take initiative to work both individually and as part of a team.
- Flexibility and Pragmatism: You are adaptable and willing to be involved in a variety of different projects.
- Knowledge of Housing and Energy Policies: You have formal experience or a strong interest in housing, housing policy, or sustainability.
Desirable
- Experience with Statistical Software: Proficiency in tools such as R, SAS, or SPSS.
- Programming Skills: Competence in programming languages like Python, R, C++, or Java.
- Understanding of Housing Quality: Enthusiasm for learning about housing quality and the characteristics of households living in various conditions.
- Sustainability Knowledge: Awareness and interest in sustainability practices and their application in housing policies

Work Location Options
Hybrid – This role offers a mix of home and office working. You will need to be within commuting distance of our Watford office, as you will be expected to attend in person once per week.
