Summary of Position

The Senior Crude Market Analyst will be role is pivotal in enhancing IET’s analytical and trading capabilities, specifically focused on U.S. crude and products analytics through the newly established Houston office. The Houston team will play a crucial role in expanding the company’s footprint in U.S. energy markets. Additionally, this role will contribute to IET’s ongoing mission to be recognized as a center of excellence in global energy markets for the entire INEOS group. The role will report to the Globa Head of Oil Trading.

Responsibilities AND Accountabilities

  • Develop and Maintain Global Supply & Demand Models: Build and maintain comprehensive U.S. and global oil supply and demand balances, incorporating key market drivers and regional trends to support trading and strategic decisions.
  • Market Intelligence & Reporting: Provide regular insights on market developments by monitoring news sources such as Bloomberg, Reuters, and other industry reports. Communicate key market-moving information to teams in Houston and London.
  • Valuation Models: Build and enhance fair value models for futures, spreads, and other derivative products, integrating both fundamental and technical market factors.
  • Vessel Tracking & Flow Analytics: Utilize vessel tracking services and shipping data to analyse flows and develop models that provide insights on global trades, including fixtures and potential supply disruptions.
  • Strategy Development: Collaborate with trading teams to develop trading strategies based on a blend of market fundamentals, technical analysis, and economic indicators.
  • Machine Learning Applications: Apply machine learning techniques to improve forecasting accuracy for oil fundamentals and economic models, leveraging advanced data analytics to enhance predictive capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience as an oil analyst. Experience in analysing oil markets, supply and demand dynamics, and trading fundamentals is essential.
  • Strong analytical skills, programming skills (Python preferred), ability to build/validate models and apply data science & machine learning to operational topics.
  • Market Knowledge: Deep understanding of oil market fundamentals, including knowledge of global supply and demand drivers, refining economics, shipping logistics, and market structures.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficient in building and analysing complex models using advanced tools such as Excel and Python.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and the ability to work with large datasets. Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and predictive analytics is highly desirable.
  • Vessel Tracking & Data Analytics: Hands-on experience with vessel tracking services (e.g., Vortexa, Kpler) and other industry tools for flow analysis and trade insights.
