Position Summary

The GPS BI&T Analytics Operations team (Global Product Development and Supply Business Insights and Technology) is building best-in-class DevOps and MLOps infrastructure for deploying innovative AI and ML solutions that drive business value at BMS.

The MLOps Engineer, Manager – Analytics Operations will work directly with the Associate Director, Analytics Operations to deploy and manage ML models in production environments. This role will serve as the bridge between machine learning development and operations and work closely with small, cross-functional project-driven teams that include developers, data scientists and business stakeholders to deliver high impact business value. The successful candidate will build robust pipelines and infrastructure that enable efficient development, deployment and monitoring of machine learning solutions.

The successful candidate is a creative thinker with a scientific background in computer science, mathematics, engineering or other STEM field and has expertise in one or more of the following areas: backend development with a focus on cloud or ML model deployment, deep learning frameworks, data science, machine learning and data engineering. Previous DevOps/MLOps experience is desired but not a requirement. Additionally, a successful candidate is an excellent communicator who can effectively explain complex technical information to a wide variety of stakeholders.  

Key Responsibilities

The MLOps Engineer, Manager – Analytics Operations will partner with business-facing stakeholders to establish core capabilities within the team, namely:

  • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for machine learning models.
  • Containerize ML models using Docker/Kubernetes and deploy them on cloud platforms (AWS (preferred), Azure or GoogleCloud).
  • Set up and maintain monitoring systems to track model performance, response time, error rates and resource utilization (CloudWatch, Grafana, ELK stack).
  • Establish alerting and notification systems to quickly detect anomalies or deviations from expected behavior.
  • Drive business value – By implementing the highest impact use cases, actively drive business insights and the adoption of advanced analytics. Establish the team as a source of innovative AND reliable enterprise tools.

Qualifications & Experience

  • BA/BS in a scientific or quantitative major required; advanced degree (Master or PhD) preferred.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in backend development, cloud or ML engineering. Previous DevOps or MLOps experience a plus but not required. The ideal candidate will have both experience deploying ML models at scale but also have acquired a set of best practices along the way. Relevant experience in high tech or the biopharmaceutical industry preferred but not required.
  • Expert coder in languages such as: Python, Java, C or C ++, Go, Rust, Julia. (Required).
  • Version control and working with multiple team members in Git required.
  • Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS (preferred), Azure, Google Cloud), containerization technologies (Kubernetes, Docker) and MLOps tools (MLflow, MLOps platform) is desired.
  • Knowledge of deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, Tensorflow) is desired.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools and practices (Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI) is desired.
  • Experience with data engineering using SQL, Spark, ETL/ELT and data pipelines a plus.
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to lead multiple projects and balance shifting priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, team-building, written and verbal communication skills to ensure effective collaborations within cross-functional teams.
