About You:
As a Data Operations Engineer, you'll be a foundational member of our new Data Operations team, reporting directly to the Data Operations Lead. Based in either our Munich or Budapest office, you will play a crucial hands-on role in the day-to-day execution of ensuring our data infrastructure and pipelines are reliable, performant, and deliver high-quality data. You will support the monitoring, maintenance, and automation efforts critical to our data warehouse (currently Redshift), BI platform (Sigma Computing), and ETL/ELT processes (using Airflow and dbt). This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to building robust data operations practices from the ground up within a supportive, international team environment.
What skills do I need?
- Experience: 2-4+ years of relevant experience in data engineering, data operations, SRE with a data focus, or backend engineering with data infrastructure responsibilities within a cloud environment.
- Scripting: Proficiency in Python for automation and tooling.
- SQL: Strong SQL skills for querying, troubleshooting, and data validation.
- Cloud Environment: Hands-on experience working within a major cloud platform, preferably AWS.
- Data Pipelines: Experience working with data pipeline concepts and tools, including orchestration (e.g., Airflow), transformation (e.g., dbt), and ingestion (e.g., Airbyte, Fivetran).
- Databases/Warehouses: Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and cloud data warehouses (e.g., Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery).
- Collaboration: Good communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in an international setting.
- Problem-Solving: Analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
- Version Control: Experience using Git.
- Language: Excellent English (written and spoken).
Nice to Haves:
- Experience using monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, CloudWatch).
- Experience with BI tools, particularly Sigma Computing.
- Familiarity with data governance concepts or tools like Datahub.
- Experience working in a SaaS company environment.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools and practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the day-to-day monitoring, management, and optimization of data pipelines ensuring timely and reliable data delivery.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data pipeline failures, performance bottlenecks, and data quality issues under the guidance of the Data Operations Lead.
- Develop and maintain scripts (primarily Python) and tools to automate data operations tasks, deployments, and monitoring checks.
- Assist in the administration and performance tuning of our data warehouse (Redshift) and BI platform (Sigma Computing).
- Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure high availability of critical data.
- Contribute to the implementation and adherence to data quality frameworks and processes.
- Support the operational aspects of our data governance platform
- Partner with Data Engineers (SID team) embedded in Engineering, Infrastructure engineers in TechOps, and other stakeholders to build and maintain data pipelines and resolve data-related issues.
- Help maintain documentation for operational procedures, system configurations, and troubleshooting guides.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical data systems.
