Role Purpose:
Lead the development and use of energy data analytics and management systems to deliver continuous improvement, drive ownership and common best practices across Vodacom Group as domain lead under the Vodacom Group Center of Excellence for Energy Management.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinate and manage biannual energy reporting (i.e., Sustainability Report, Integrated Report, Annual Reports), external rating agency submissions (e.g. CDP, S&P), Climate Transition Plan, EU Taxonomy and audits including collection of evidence.
- Facilitate energy performance evaluations & steering committees,
- Maintain Group Energy Policy,
- Maintain group risk management for department.
- Support ISO 50001 certification and ISO 50001 internal audits.
- Coordinate and draft management and board reports.
- Develop and maintain net zero plan.
- Lead the development of data mapping techniques and analytic methods to derive energy information to assist with decision making.
- Drive the creation of policies and processes to standardise the collection of energy data from different sources and systems.
- Manage the interim manual processes to collect energy data in a timeous manner.
- Support the formulation of evidence-based reports and recommendations for business intelligence.
- Lead the implementation of control points to ensure auditability and traceability of source data in compliance with sustainability reporting and audit requirements.
- Steer the business to automate manual processes, standardise data and make use of Measuring and Verification principles but also advanced data science and statistical analytic methods in accordance with international best practices and standards.
- Develop domain expertise and lead the team to drive excellence.
- Facilitate the building and development of capabilities to improve business intelligence tools and utilisation of analytic data to support continuous improvement and identification of energy saving opportunities.
- Provide support to the Sustainability team within Vodacom Group and Vodafone to enable credible external reporting and continuous improvement in energy data tracking and visibility
- Lead the delivery of reports to simplify complex energy data effectively in standard business intelligence dashboard and as input to business and technical decisions.
- Provide technical support to assist with the technical requirements for compliance to claim energy incentives, grants, and funding. Support, advise and assist the business to identify opportunities where incentives, grants and funding could be used to support the Group’s energy objectives.
- Drive compliance to policy, management systems and resource efficiency through audits.
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
- A 4-year bachelor’s degree (B.Eng./B. Sc) (NQF level 8) in engineering or data science with a focus on energy engineering.
- Certified measuring and verification professional (CMVP)
- Certification in data analytics would be advantageous.
Core Competencies, Knowledge and Experience
- 10+ years’ experience managing energy data for analytic purposes, incentive support and business case development.
- 10+ years’ experience drafting integrated and sustainability reports for JSE-listed companies.
- 10+ experience submitting rating agency reports (e.g. CDP, S&P)
- Thorough understanding of advanced analytic and data management processes, including the potential use of AI and ML to optimise energy efficiency and control.
- Homed people management, communication and problem-solving skills including the ability to manage upwards.
- 10+ years’ experience writing technical reports including business intelligence reports, policies and procedures.
- Advanced skills to ensure quality and assurance for energy data and analytics.
- Industry leading experience understanding energy management systems and the implementation thereof (ISO 50 001).
- 10+ experience in energy management, including the identification of significant energy users, energy drivers and the development of energy baselines as a Certified Measuring and Verification Professional.
- Ability to manage a team of energy data scientists to perform advanced analytics within a data science environment (e.g. Python) as well as advance analytics and processing of data in Microsoft Excel if necessary.
- Ability to manage a team and streamline workflow processes.
