Data Scientist

Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Department

The Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is seeking the 
services of a skilled and capable individual to work as a Data Scientist 
in our Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Department. Reporting 
to the Deputy Director, the Data Scientist will be responsible for 
using machine learning—supervised and unsupervised learning—(or 
other computer automation) techniques to assist the BMA in effective 
and efficient decision-making in the fulfilment of its prudential 
responsibilities.

This is a key role for the Authority and the post-holder will be 
responsible for, but not limited to:

• Collaborate in the management of projects and with cross functional teams and stakeholders to plan, coordinate, and deliver enterprise-wide data solutions that align with strategic business 
objectives
• Translating business needs into requirements suitable for 
enterprise-wide data solutions, including Artificial Intelligence 
(AI)- and Machine Learning (ML)- driven models
• Creating ML models to uncover hidden and complex patterns, 
make predictions about future events, and transform raw data into 
actionable insights
• Researching, proposing and prototyping AI and ML models to 
demonstrate business value and solve specific business problems
• Designing, developing, implementing and deploying AI and 
ML pipelines to deliver scalable and sustainable solutions in an 
enterprise environment
• Designing, developing and implementing end-to-end Business 
Intelligence (BI) solutions, including semantic data models and 
self-service capabilities, with appealing and effective dashboards 
and visualisations
• Developing assessment and monitoring procedures for data 
solutions, including AI- and ML-driven models
• Designing and performing meaningful exploratory data analysis 
across various datasets
• Presenting and communicating insights using advanced and 
effective data visualisation techniques
• Supporting the design and implementation of enterprise-wide, 
modern and scalable data management platforms, as well as 
consolidated and modern data pipelines (i.e., extract, transform 
and load) to extract, aggregate, and manipulate data from various 
sources. Implementing and supporting data operation pipelines
• Performing other related work and special projects as assigned by 
management in accordance with competencies normally associated 
with the post

This position requires a proven technical and business background. 
Therefore, the post-holder must have:

• A master’s degree or equivalent qualification in computer science, 
mathematics, statistics, or a related field from a recognised 
institution or professional body
• Minimum of seven (7) years of experience developing and 
deploying ML models, including deep learning models, in an 
enterprise setting
• Strong experience in data science and advanced analytics using 
statistical programming languages (e.g., Python stack, R, SQL)
• Demonstrated capability in statistical analysis, quantitative 
methods, multivariate calculus and linear algebra
• Expertise in data pre-processing, manipulation and feature 
engineering
• Proven ability to extract insights from large, complex datasets
• Proficiency in data storytelling and visualisation to communicate 
insights effectively
• Solid leadership skills with experience in developing data analytics 
and science initiatives and managing projects
• Strong organisational and planning abilities, with the capacity to 
manage multiple priorities and align efforts with strategic goals
• Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills, capable of 
translating complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences
• Proven analytical and critical thinking ability
• Comfortable working in fast-paced, dynamic environments
