The Palmer lab studies how population of neurons collectively encode information present in their input and how they perform computations on these signals


Job Summary

The job participates in scientific research projects. Ensures compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates. Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures. Writes articles, reports and manuscripts. Assists in drafting presentations on research findings.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.

  • Manages code-sharing through the Palmer Group GitHub repository, and answer user questions and code forks as needed throughout the time of their appointment.

  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.

  • Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.

  • Applies research principles and relevant subject matter knowledge relevant to administer a research project. With a moderate level of direction, manages lab and/or research-related duties and tasks. Helps develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan.

  • Takes responsibility for the following non-laboratory duties: transcribing and coding data; developing data collection instruments; presenting research; and recruiting and scheduling research subjects. Acquires higher-level skills and knowledge in the process.

  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.

  • Undergraduate degree in a STEM field.

Experience:

  • At least one year relevant research experience.

  • 5 years experience in a software company or other computing software job.

Preferred Competencies

  • Ability to work as a team player.

  • Organizational skills.

  • Analytical thinking.

  • Python coding and code commenting and sharing.

  • Modern machine learning techniques.
