The Converging Technology Laboratory (CT Lab) at Fujitsu conducts cutting-edge interdisciplinary research at the intersection of AI/ML, computational modeling, and societal challenges. Our team combines expertise in scientific computing and data-driven modeling to tackle complex systems with real-world impact.
We are seeking a graduate student (PhD or advanced MS) with a strong background in risk modeling, probabilistic methods, or structural resilience to join our research team as a summer intern. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to interdisciplinary efforts aimed at assessing infrastructure vulnerability under climate-driven stressors.
The internship duration is approximately 3 months.
Job Responsibilities
- Investigate the exposure and vulnerability of systems to environmental stressors.
- Conduct background research to understand failure modes and risk propagation in physical infrastructure.
- Analyze historical event data to inform probabilistic or classification-based risk models.
- Define and compute meaningful metrics that characterize risk or resilience.
- Collaborate with researchers working on climate forecast models to support integrated risk assessment.
- Contribute to scientific publications, presentations, and documentation as needed.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD program in a field related to Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Risk Modeling, or Environmental Science.
- Experience with probabilistic modeling, uncertainty quantification, or resilience analysis.
- Proficiency in scientific programming (e.g., Python, R, or MATLAB).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
- Familiarity with environmental or infrastructure datasets is a plus.
